Exactly, DD. Sometimes I wish I never went away from 2nd Edition. It accomplishes just about everything 3e does, but still allows for the DM adjudication on a lot of things that 3e put a lot of rules to. C&C goes back that direction, which I think a lot of the AD&D feel comes from. Using some of the mechanics from d20, and the SIEGE engine, in an effort to unify the die rolling conventions was a pretty good idea, IMHO.

DD,

In the west Texas town of El Paso I fell in love with a Mexican girl. Well actually it was a Swedish girl in Truth or Consequences New Mexico, but that is close enough. On the 4th day of July no less.

I'm hammered but that is a shoot! The best shooters come from Texas ya know, just look at the Von Erichs, Funks, and Malenkos!

I can go back to BECMI, 1E and 2E. Plus 3E for that matter. I just couldn't stay there. Like LD, C&C allows me to have that right combination, that I have to create for myself, that keeps me in my "RPG Happy Place" the longest.

I mean, when I say, "I love C&C!" I really mean, "I love C&C with all my rules tweaks in place!" Which is exactly what a lot of the design intent behind C&C is. They give you a basic game, and you change it into your perfect game.

So I love C&C because it has been the perfect base line that I am using to turn into my perfect game. Plus its been a fun learning experience to take things from various games and figuring out how to adapt it to the SIEGE system, see how well it works, and re-balance it, and write it to be easier to understand, etc... Plus to learn to step back and honestly critique yourself, which is a tough thing to do.

Now I did do this with every edition of D&D, I've always had pages of house rules. Its just that with C&C, it all just comes together perfectly for me. Its truly my "One system with which to bind them all."

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I think the main thing that keeps me bouncing back and forth between C&C and AD&D is the very thing that most folks here love about C&C.

Ascending AC and BtH.

I know it's odd but it drives me nuts. Like I'm prone to saying, I hate big numbers when I'm gaming.

THAC0 and BtH work on the same principal, just differ on the methodology. THAC0 hides the big numbers and I like that. But, I can deal with BtH without getting too bugged by it, where it really irritates me is saving throws as the game gets higher in level.

Where C&C wins me though is the rendition of several of the classes I really, really like. Also, it's an in print system so that means I get shiny new books.

I'm not real big on thinking it's more adaptable than AD&D though. I've long used attribute checks in AD&D much the same way you can use the SIEGE engine in C&C.
