The Indy 500

I know a lot of people don't care, and the state of racing has changed in the U.S. as opposed to what it was 20 years ago, but I'm excited about the Indy 500.

Being an Indianapolis native, it's sort of always been in the background. It was fun, sure, but I didn't really see why it was such an absolute passion for some people.

Then I started learning more about the history of the track--the people have involved in it, the stars, the heroes, the terrible crashes--and I began to appreciate the rhythm that each years brings--family dynasties, small-budget teams scrambling to make it in on Bump Day, etc. There's something about choosing your driver, the international representation, the sponsor schemes and car colors. Wandering around on qualification day, running into the drivers and have them be insanely accessible.

I have to think there's still a place for that history and legacy at the world's greatest motor speedway. IRL and CART are back together. Versus is covering the entire event schedule up to the race, then ABC takes over to call it. Should be a great Memorial Day Weekend!

(We totally need a TLG-sponsored car, right? Who's got a few extra hundred $K we can use?)

It's not a knock against the Indy itself, but I've never seen the appeal with auto racing. I'm sure it helps, good sir, being from the area. That being said, I hope you have an enjoyable time, watching the race!

Thanks! I know it isn't for everyone, but we do have some more widely-appealing assets:

And this:

That said, I know some folks don't get it. Honestly, it probably does help being from the area. We have a lot of folks at work who transferred from Vegas, and they didn't get into it till they got here, go the vibe, got the tailgating, heard people talk about the legacies, and visited the track.

If we're talking about NASCAR, I gotta go Tony Stewart.

I used to live in Indianapolis myself, from 1965 until 1977. Our family would go to the track every year for the 500. My dad even took me to down to the pits one year during the time trails and I got a bunch of the driver's autograph's.

I remember watching the greats, such as A.J. Foyt, the Unser brothers, Mario Andretti, etc. race around that track over the years.

Good memories race fans!

If I had that type of experience, I'm sure I would feel differently about the race. Sounds like you had a good time, Aladar.

There's also rumors of a new sponsor around the track this week:

You can't see it--it's on the front.

I'm an Indy Racing fan and a Danica fan (not for the reason you show above, but, yes, she is a pretty woman). I even watch NASCAR (Biffle and Stewart fan). Looking forward to the upcoming Indy race.
