The game I run is a homebrew set in an alternate Europe (Brittany, to be precise). The one game I'm playing in seems to be a mash-up world with stuff from all over; the party started in Malforten, but we're currently deep in Jzadirune.

Don't feel bad. Essentially my Theia campaign is a fantasy North America however my main region of play is a mesh of the Ozarks, Appalachia and the Adirondaks.

I find this fascinating. On the one hand, published campaign settings collectively predominate. The most popular setting, however, isn't any of the canned ones. Until I got my current C&C campaign up and running, I had never played/CKed a homebrew setting. I don't know if it's the setting, the relative simplicity of the C&C game, or other factors I haven't considered, but I'd definitely be curious to see what the historical trends have been in terms of this group. Have the folks who responded "Homebrew" always responded as such, or did people previously gravitate to the other canned settings like I did?

I have a home brew, called Cascandia. My main thing was my maps never looked as pretty. Then I realized I could take a map from published setting and use it. Then I realized these canned settings already did a lot of what I did, and usually in better depth and over all better ideas, so I started mixing them. I then just started using os much published stuff, that took me in directions I never would have went with just my ideas, I became hooked. So when I got married and had kids, I was already doing things as simply as possible.
Still the main reason I used published settings, and modules, is because they not only take my games in directions I likely would have never thought of, they also challenge me to adapt and use them, which is an extra level of fun I like.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I was always a big fan of Greyhawk. Prior to the C&C campaign I'm currently running, that was my most frequent and longest-running setting. I still love Gary's work on it. I'm not nearly as big a fan of what was done with it in the D20 era, but all things considered, Greyhawk is my favorite canned setting. I've played most of the TSR settings at some point.

Running good old greyhawk. There just something about it that is catchy. Currently we are a few miles outside of hommlet in a somewhat famous moathouse.

The current breakdown:
* 80% Freeport (day to day setting and politics)
* 5% Haunted Highlands (For the campaign big bads -- Thune rule!)
* 3% Dawn Forge (World Map and for racial backgrounds ... elves are new here, orcs are not automatic bad guys, but Tieflings are [as it should be!])
* 2% Scarred Lands (Some great monsters and the war with the Titans happened)
About another 5% of my campaign comes from Malhaovic Press' Chaositech source book. Chaos technology that meshes with CnC with zero conversion and NPC mutations that need a slight tweak. You thought the Thune were scary before ...
It's great to be able to kit up a NPC with toys without wondering how the PC are going to use those same toys on your villians later.

I know exactly what you mean. I would ask that someday , not necessarily any time soon, you take the time to read another setting. One pre-made or "boxed". As you read it you get to explore it all on your own making several discoveries just like a player would when their characters' move along it. Then you get to play "tour guide" and drag your friends through the nastiest bits.

Non-canonical Blackmoor, aka 'Kitchen Sink' that could be set in The Wilderlands I guess (I'm really trying to track down a copy of the original Great Kingdom map from The Domesday Book). I've got Dragonians (Draconians by another name), Hairfoots (Kender), Tallfellows (Docrae), The 7 Dwarf Houses (DragonLance..sort of), Pixie-Fairies (yep, Hackmaster too), Ratlings (Oriental Adventures 3.5), Revenants (Forsaken Undead from World of Warcraft), Genassi (including Wood & Metal based on Blackmoor Elements), Shifters & Kalashtar & Changelings & Warforged (Eberron), The 3 Moons of Magic: Solinari, Lunitari & Nuitari (DragonLance again), Hommlet & The Temple of Elemental Evil & Iuz the Old (Greyhawk, mostly replacing The Egg of Coot), Castle of the Mad Arch-Mage/Castle Zagyg/Castle Greyhawk/Castle Blackmoor (replacing the regular Castle Blackmoor and the surface 'ruins' are a Roman Saxon Shore-style late 4th Century Fort). Froglins/Boggiwogs/Bullywugs are a player race that represent the ancient Cult of Br'bbt (Cult of the Frog) but no longer are connected with The Temple of the Frog. Minotaurs (DragonLance, again) are a sea-faring race based mostly out of Jackport.
I reversed The Map of the North (Blackmoor) and I'm working on finishing up (I took the Zeitgeist map, reversed it, moved stuff around, deleted Egg of Coot/Coot Bay and replaced it with Molag etc). Technologically, its Late Roman/Early Migration Era and Carolingian Europe instead of Rennaissance Era (no plate armour, guns or trappings of Chivalry).
All this and so much more can be yours If The Price is Right! (Ok, sorry, bad joke )

Bring on the races! The last time I offered a ton of options, my players stuck to elves and dwarves.

no kidding! Back when the "Complete Humanoids" book came out the only way I could get more than maybe 1 player to try something different was to say, "OK, week after next I am taking a break from our standard campaign. We are going to play a completely humanoid based game. So decide what you want to play, a wemic, centaur, whatever. No standard races allowed."
We played that game for several weeks, it was a lot of fun.
