My FLGS toys with me

Post by Lord Dynel »

First they tell me, last week, that it'll be a month before they can get the new M&T and the Black Libram in. To my suprise, it's in toady when I visit. But homeboy can;t sell it to me, because "it's not in the system, yet." Well, put it in the @#$%!#@ already! So I'll have to make another trip over there. At least I can do that tomorrow, I freakin' hope.

Ever get your chain pulled by your FLGS?

EDIT - Ack, posted this in the wrong forum....can someone move it to Open? Thanks.

My LGS continues to refuse to stock Goodman Games modules and Castles and Crusades, after 3 years of my asking him to. So I just order direct for C&C and get my Goodman DCC's from Amazon.

I have to admit I was shocked to see him putting Level Up! on his shelves, and as a result he also had one 4E Goodman module up there, so maybe he will finally come around on Goodman modules.

When we had a FLGS it was great, good people, good service. Now we have nothing.

Sorry to hear that Maliki.

Well, the crappy thing...or maybe it's not so crappy...is that I got to go over there tomorrow to get the books. It's not so crappy because I have to be over in that neighborhood tomorrow anyway with he family, but I could have read it tonight instead of waiting another day.

At least he got it in a sort-of timely manner, unlike what he originally told me (which was a month).

Hang on:

Your local HAS the goods, IN the shop, and TURNS YOU AWAY because they haven't bothered to sort out the paperwork on it? And then expects you to put yourself out and go back when they can get around to pulling their proverbial fingers out?

Amazing.

That'd be a three strikes and out all in one go for me; no wonder games shops go t**s-up so regularly.

Indeed. Well, I did go back today. The only reason I wasn't pissed for the revisit was because my son had his birthday party a month early so kids from scholl could go, and the FLGS is two blocks away from the place. But yeah, I was trying to stay light-hearted about it on Friday, but I was actually pretty pissed leaving. See, he and I are pretty good friends (even sat at his game table for a little while a few years back), and I think he thinks it's okay because we're friends. So, yeah, I dunno. Business is still business, IMHO.

At least I got it today.

This is one of the reasons I left the FLGS and order from TLG directly. The FLGS near me has horrid customer service and has an attitude of if it's not WOTC, WoD or M:tG it is not worth their time. They have some hard core mini's games as well but they almost hate the 'independent' publishers to the point they hardly stock anything beyond their scope of what they think gaming is.

I'm lucky that there is a real good FLGS in the Chicagoland area. (Games Plus in Mt Prospect). I placed a order for M&T and Heart of Glass just today.

I've been in some of those stores where the staff act you should feel privledged just to be in their building and it sucks. I was literally sneered at for asking about a Gygaxian product by one of the tatooed/goth wannabes at Gamers Paradise a few years back. Needless to say I never went back. Now all the GP are closed down.

Moral to the story: don't be snotty to your customers. It was a bad policy back before the internet and online shopping, these days its akin to cutting your own throat.

I've purchased C&C stuff at a local game shop in the Milwaukee area and it usually doesn't pop up in their system, for whatever reason. But, he just rolls with the punches and puts it in under a "misc. code" (or whatever) and gladly takes my money - which I don't have a problem with.
If that would have happened to me I probably would not have returned to the shop. There's plenty of other places to purchase those items - like Steve!!

Do you shop at a LGS in KC,KS? Because that sounds a lot like the one I used to shop at.

When I special ordered Towers of Adventure and Elves of Golarion I waited and waited for them to call (standard procedure with special orders). One day I was driving right by it so I stopped in. There the books were just sitting on the shelf behind the register. Smiling I walked up and asked if my order was in, knowing good and well it was. The registerette looked at the books and said "No, these are for somebody else." I was so steamed I drove straight home and ordered it from NobleKnights. Then (har dee har har as the gawds laft at me) the owner/manager calls me the next day and said that it was actually my order and if I would come get it. I told him I didnt need it anymore.

Then I special ordered GURPS Martial Arts from them. I placed the order over the phone with an employee. The next couple weeks roll by. I call in (tired of waiting) to see if it arrived yet. I get the owner on the phone. He checks and tells me the order was never placed.

I used to have them place an issue of KoDT on 'hold' for me every month. Nothing new to businesses that carry comics. Except that more then once I walked in and asked the cashier if they had a copy reserved behind the counter or one left in the back (none on the racks, btw). When she looks at her computer and goes "No, we're sold out of that issue. Do you want me to hold one next month when they come in?" was when I finally decided that the friggin' FLGS was just not going to be doing business with me anymore.

Heh, no Charlie. This one's in Central Florida.

Well, I hope I've gotten to the point where the FLGS will just order for me the TLG stuff. But I don't know. I have no idea if they were going to get the new M&T if I hadn;t said I wanted it. And I don't want o harvest bad emotions from the FLGS guy is I start ordering, considering how long I was pestering him about getting TLG stuff in. I might run a test with the PHB. I'll wait to see if he gets it in or mentions it. If he does, then I'll stick out ordering with them...until there's another ordering snafu. Then I'll go the direct route.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience at your LGS. I'd probably stop buying from them to. I know how important ordering/supporting the FLGS is (at least to me), but damn, it's frustrating sometimes.
