I was upset that with all of the actually important newsworthy stuff happening in the world there was nothing but MJ shit on every single news station available. Hours and hours of the shit.

No kidding! I thought the Shah issuing orders to his pseudo police to go execute protestors was far more important than finding out for the 10 thousandth time that Michael was dead and that there was nothing new to report!

Yesterday I became convinced we no longer have news reporters in America.

That's what happens when the media has to obey the market forces.

Someone once said that Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Paine, et. al. were basically 18th-century bloggers - they owned their own printing presses and published whatever the heck was on the top of their head, even if the subject was "farting."

BTW, I am also far more saddened at the loss of Billy than I am about MJ. I am most saddened by the loss of Farrah. Nasty way to go.

Michael "died" for me years ago.

Now that's a pitiful joker. I'd rather see Billy Mays walking around than that idiot.

Just my two cents.

Apparently, a piece of luggage hit him in the head during his last flight. I'm betting on a blood clot or a subdural hematoma. That "Bleed on the brain" thing is serious. BTW....his son confirmed this story on twitter a while ago.

While I still feel worst about Ed McMahon, Billy Mays is #2 on my "feel bad" list. Pitchmen was, in my opinion, one of the few genuinely interesting shows, especially in the "reality"-type genre, that was on TV. I loved seeing what inventors had to go through to get their product to market, and the way Billy & Sully helped them get it there was fun to watch. He seemed like a down-to-earth guy who made it big, but never forgot where he came from and, the energy we saw on his infomercials reflected the interest he placed in all of the people he helped contribute something to society. Jackson, Farrah, and even Ed in this regard largely just either made us smile or tap our toes to a catchy song. How many here have used (and benefited) from OxyClean? I have. I've used a few of the products he hawked, and was quite happy with them. I guess in terms of the current impact on my life, Billy's passing is most depressing. If it's in terms of nostalgia, then it's Ed. I dunno...been a tough week. Hopefully there won't be any more for a while. We need to catch our breath, and catch up on the rest of the world.

I can think of at least ten so-called celebs that I would have liked to have seen go instead of Farah, Billy and Ed.

I think that Michael was obviously one weird duck, and might have done some of the things of which he was accused. However, listening to Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 made up a significant part of my childhood. I had the Glove. I listened to Thriller every day when I came home from school and just thought that the gatefold sleeve was just awesome. I watched the Jackson 5 cartoon when they played it in reruns. I tried to dance like the guy when I was a kid and just thought that he was super cool. I got older and grew out of it, but I still thought that he had some good tunes along the way. "Man In the Mirror" is a good one, and "Smooth Criminal" just plain rocks.

I don't wish death upon anyone, nor do I think that anyone's death is somehow "less important" than another, but Farrah was on a poster and a vapid television show, and never really managed to make her career worth anything after Charlie's Angels. There's going to be more hoopla made about the lifelong star who had the single largest-selling album in history.

Ed, I mourned. I used to sneak a little Johnny Carson on my black-and-white set when my mom thought that I was asleep. Watching Johnny and Ed are probably the influence which helped build me a bridge to that classic era in Hollywood that a lot of folks my age missed out on. This is probably why I find Jack Benny funny.
It's a shame about Billy Mays, but he was just a pitchman to me. I feel for his family.

For some reason I think that Billy, Ed and Farah have joined with Johnny and are having a classic Tonight Show in Heaven. Billy is helping with the Art Fern teatime movie while Farah and Ed laugh it up on the couch.

You know, this is probably the healthiest take on the whole thing that I've seen. Good job, Julian.
