Rise of the New Internet

Post by serleran »

Alright, so I have been less than satisfied with my "amazing performance" cable connection, so its time to switch to fiber optic, and FiOS. So, they came out and have been drilling and pounding and digging for the last 4 hours (thank whatever deity form they did the groundwork in December...) and its still not done. This, not to mention that I had to virtually take everything out and move it all around... hundreds of books temporarily displaced from their bookshelves, all in the hope of having a connection that 1) doesn't suck and 2) sucks less than it did. Oh, and if the new digital phone can stop the goddamn buzzing static the land line gets, which drives me absolutely hateful, then it will have been worth the 2 hours of sleep I nearly got today.

Progress. What a filthy word.

Serl, I've had virtually every kind of Internet connection you can have short of satellite. I got FIOS two years ago, and it's been hands-down the best connection I've dealt with, residential or commercial.

You may be dealing with some disruption now, but once it's up and running I believe you'll be very happy.

Well, it is installed and working on my computer (have to tweak things to get it to the wife's machine) and it is much faster -- 25 down about 22 up, compared to the 15 down and 6 up I was getting before, without really increasing cost (now that phone and internet are the same bill, anyway.) Plus, I get free long distance where I had to otherwise pay for it, it actually means I'm saving money and getting a better connection... so, I am pretty happy with it now. We'll see how it continues.

Oh, did I mention that they had to drill three holes in the wall and now all of my stuff is spread all over the house? Also, when they drilled, they discovered the conduit drop box was 18 inches too far to the right so it is exposed which means they have to come back and fix it? And, and, when they went to drill, because it was supposed to be in a "non-critical" location, they went through the bedroom closet and in the ductwork for central air discovered a lair of bees? Sweet.

Oh well, its working for now and that's good.

Wow. Sounds like quite the experience, serl. Sorry to hear about your internet, home-wrecking woes. Hopefully all will be resolved soon!

Good grief!

At least you can kill the bees and not blow them all over the house w/ the AC (that's air conditioning, not Armor Class)
Glad your net is fast, enjoy!

Glad you found the bees before they found you. One of my friends lived in a condo during law school that had a bee infestation that he did not know about. I was over at his place late one night helping him assemble a bookcase or something, when out of nowhere we noticed a bee in his living room. Then another one. Then lots more. Then we freaked out like little girls and hid in his bedroom while we formed a battle plan. We went back into the living room, found it filled with flying bees, and saw that there was a hole in an upper corner of the living room. We eventually plugged it with a bunch of tape and he had to get in exterminators to reomve the hive. I guess we were just "lucky" to have been there when the bees broke through the wall.

That would just totally suck. I probably would have reacted the same as you, good sir...or worse.
