Another loss..

Post by seskis281 »

While not really affiliated with genre films or TV,

Karl Malden, one of America's greatest actors, has passed away.

His performance in "On the Waterfront" is always most noted, and I happen to show an episode of The West Wing in my theatre class where he plays a Catholic priest, and in that performance he carried the same bible used as a prop in Waterfront 5 decades earlier.

Of those who have passed in this past week, Karl's death is the saddest for me personally.

Gen. Omar Bradley in Patton. He was a great foil to George C. Scott. Strange, I thought Malden had died a few years ago. Ah well...more sadness. Been a tough year on celebs.

I always liked seeing him in a role. I even faithfully watched his TV series "Skag", for the few episodes it was on at least.

Also the long-time pitchman for American Express - those ads were part of my childhood.

Karl Maldan sure did get the lion's share of the coke.

He was a great actor. His passing definitely makes me feel sad.

Very sad news indeed. Karl Malden portrayed many characters of my childhood. Lt. Mike Stone, among others.

He will be missed. I remember him as Omar Bradley in Patton and from the Streets of San Francisco.

Yep. Karl Malden. That was a loss. I think a lot of people thought he and George C. Scott were the same age. That was primarily due to the fact that Scott was "altered" for the Patton role. Malden was fantastic as Omar Bradley. I watch Patton at least 2 or 3 times a year. Also remember him from Streets of San Francisco. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned him as the hat and trench coat-wearing spokesman for American Express. "Don't leave home without it".

I forgot about him in the AMEX commercials.
