Online Collabarative Drawing

Post by babbage »

I'm trying to find a drawing application that will let me draw pictures in real time, whilst letting others draw as well. I've found a few, but they usually miss some important (IMO) feature.

Do any of you know of any good ones?

There's one called Open Canvas. I dont recall the web site. Might just run a search and it ought to come up?

Send a pm to andrea (username scribble cloud) who should be able to answer your question. She knows all sorts of online drawing-related websites. Just so you know, many are java-based so browser type may be an issue.

I advise the openCanvas program. I've used it quite a bit.

I have the file in a zip.

Ho'kay. I editted my last post and added the url to the zip.

When you start up the program, be sure to click on Help and hit English. That's only if the language is in Japanese, otherwise you're fine.

It seems like window's paint program. Is there anything special about this one, that I'm missing?

Aside from allowing others on a network to contribute? (and no... I'm not trying to be a smartass)

I haven't tried the program yet but if you click on the network tab there is the option 'Show Network Window' which gives you options to set an ip address as well as username password info with an additional chat window.

It's a small program so I don't think it would do much more than your basic paint program... But I'm think that this would be an interesting alternative to some of the other programs for playing an RPG over chat (online)

No problemo, Professor M. I know yer not one of "them" smartarses!
But thanks. The ability to network the program is very cool. I'm going to try it tomorrow on my home network. This could be a lot of fun.

It's a fair sight better than windows paint. Its more like Painter Lite.

Well, I've been using this program quite a bit so here's what I've found quite useful:

-It allows tablets to use their pressure sensitive ability

-It allows layers.

-The watercolor tool is awesome. So is the pen tool.

-Can connect up to four people.

From my experience, to host an oC session, your computer must not be connected to a network. For example, the computer I use is hooked up to the other computers in my house via a wireless connection. For some reason, oC won't allow a network user be the host of a session (but you may still connect to another session hosted by a non-network user).

Well, as an example of oC sessions I've had with other people, here's a few pics.

and some random tinkering in oC on my own:

Thanks for that. It does seem to be a good program - unfortunately, I need 5 people to connect to it. And I am on a wireless network. I really need it to be available across the internet though (I'm assuming this is just an IP thing).

Hmm. Found this. After playing around with it, it seems to satisfy most of my needs. Especially when I just load up a blank map and start drawing on it.

Nice tool (and the token tool) so might use that.
