In need of help

Post by Rigon »

This is a cross post from DF.

Hey everyone, I was wondering if someone could help me out. I want to get a list of all the pre-3.x Kingdoms of Kalamar (materials from 1994-2001). I have the '94 campaign setting and am interested in maybe getting the rest of the materials before they switched to 3.x. Thanks

My google-fu was strong tonight, there was a boxed set with the following two books: Sourcebook of the Sovereign Lands, Mythos of the Divine and Worldly; one book Beneath the Waves, and 10 adventures. Try this linky out (it lists both pre-3e and 3e Kalamar, the pre-3e is listed as being a "Universal Supplement" under the "game" heading):

Hope that helps.

Jeez...I didn't realize that even had that many modules! That's crazy.

Question, Rigon: you collecting to collect or you going to run a game set there?

I didn't even realize there were pre-d20 Kalamar materials.

The pre-d20 KoK material is more generic, though obviously geared toward AD&D, and is, in my opinion, better than the d20 stuff re-released. A quick look over the list and it seems to be complete... would have to dig through the collection to verify.

Yeppers...and the original box set is definitely worth it, if you can find it. No worries if you can't though, beacause the d20 campaign setting book is very similar to the box set. There's some charts in the back that reference class and levels (from d20) but other than that it's pretty system-neutral, IIRC.

I was thinking of running a game there eventually. I found the '94 boxed set at my LGS last summer and really liked the setting. I just started re-reading and thought that it would be nice to have all the material for it also, but I'm not interested in the d20 stuff.

I could pick up a copy of the pre-D20 box set for $50 at a used book store near me. Is that a good price? is it worth that price?

Man, that sounds a little high to me, but I don't know. The thing is, they're usually pretty scarce. So maybe that price isn't so bad.

Rigon - one thing I would suggest from the d20 era would be the Atlas. All it is, is a book of maps. And they're pretty nice. Definitely worth it, even if you're not into the d20 stuff (which I'm not either, actually).

I got mine for $15, but like LD said that $50 price seems high to me. My set is in close to mint condition, so I don't know. Whether or not it is worth getting, I think it is, but maybe not at that price.

Not at $50, no. I'd be happy to sell my sealed copy at that... maybe.

Thanks guys, I'll pass on the boxed set then, especially since it is not in mint condition.

Probably a good idea, dachda. I think if you're vigilant you'll find something cheaper. If a few months go by and you don't find anything, I'd say then start considering that box. But as I said earlier, you may at least want to find and thumb-through a d20 version (of only the KoK setting book...the rest is suspect) because it is actually real close to the box set.

Dachda, if you're just looking for the pre-d20 information to use and not as a collectable, then you might want to consider this at Noble Knight Games.

I ran a KoK campaign during my 3.5 years. I loved the setting. I still use the Goods & Gear book. For gamers that love random charts it has ones for determining what a store has in stock based on population levels.

+1

Good and Gear, is spectacular. That book has definitely paid for itself at my table. But of course, I love me some equipment books.
