At the end of the road I was willing to drop $150 right there in his store on various product if he had given me a deal, he wouldn't so I went to Le Valet and spent my money there.
Did you ask for a deal from LeValet? They would have handed you the very same card where they stamp you and after 200$ in purchases you get 20$. So you can't really win an argument based on that. I'm sure the guy behind the counter at GamersWorld has a profit margin he needs to keep and they are a MUCH smaller store. Sorry to hear you didn't like it there. I personally would spend a little more to support the store vs spending a little less to suppirt a store I've had less than steller experiences with.
Just so you get a example of how extreme Valet can be... I use to buy lots of minis. Along with my books and all the other stuff I get for my hobby, there was one year in particular where I was doing really well financially and therefore I dropped several grand on stuff. I would say that in one year I filled out 10 of those valet cards. That's 2000$ worth of purchases and 200$ worth of redeemable coupons. The last coupon I had needed 9 more 20$ purchase in order to fulfill the 200$ limit. I was 5 cents short. It was a 180$ purchase in one shot! The woman at the cash would NOT give me my final stamp. I showed her all the purchases I made, but no... she did not budge! Why? I don't know, but it really pissed me off. Conversly, I had a gamers world card, and knowing that I bought quite a few things there, they had no problem stamping my cards even though I was a few cents off.
But the women.... ahhhh the women... ask anyone who's been here in the summer... best looking women in the world
I must agree! My kneck aches from all the rubber knecking I do as I drive or walk by public areas ( and the slaps to the back of my head from my own girlfriend )
There was an actual survey taken and MTL woman came in 1st place. Apperently it has alot to do with the fashion. Montreal has a wonderful fashion sense that comes out in the summer time after being all clothed up during the winter... it almost all comes off in the summer.
Oh I see your point. Trust me and of course no Valet never gives deals. They did back in the day when Peter was in charge of the gaming, but never since.
That said, I look at it this way. I was looking for essentially a $15 dollar deal on $150 worth of spending.
So instead of making the $150 that day over $15 he made $0 off of me.
Now before this degenerates any further Let's just say I am willing to give them a second chance, even with no deals, so long as I am not treated like a piece of gum on a taxi floor next time I go in

No problem! I just wanted to point out that Le Valet would do the same. I'm not PRO-Gamers World, I still shop more at VALET but I prefer the other.

You guys are destroying my mental picture of the Royal Mountain... I thought it was like Alabama or something, where few could read. There are actually stores and books and stuff? Wow. I need a new mental picture.
Serl... y'all gotta get out more often. Come up to Montreal and Pat and I will ensure you have a grand ol time. First thing we'll do is take you to Chez Paree - a classy joint with a fantastic buffet. http://www.go-montreal.com/chezparee/index-en.htm
Then when you're redy, we can head on out to the various game stores and such.
Well, I know I'll be in Toronto come the end of October, so I'll see about pestering the wife for a trip further into the abyss, as it were.

Pat... you heard the man! Let's make sure we nab him as he passed MTL!
I won't say anything about Chez Paree... nope not one word
Just remember that Montreal is very far from Toronto... about 5 hours by car IIRC.

I find more stuff on the shelves at Le Valet and occasionally have great finds in their used section.
A lot of the prices at Gamer's World are better though their selection is far more limited. They win points because they are closer to me.
Capitaine Quebec is interesting but I wouldn't shop for my gaming stuff there and 'Carta Magica' is useful for my WOTC plastic crack addiction from time to time. I still haven't checked out 'Le Donjon' and I know there are a few other specialized stores in the Montreal area.
All this leads me to this belief: Montreal is great for place for gaming. As for the Montreal Chapter, I think it's a good idea. Will have to think and talk about it a bit more to get it off the ground but I think it can work. I'll get back to you both on this.

They have a buffet?

I'm an Aussie gamer in Montreal, well just off the island actually. Talk of a Montreal C&C Chapter is very interesting
I run an online campaign via Fantasy Grounds (with all my old high school gaming buddies), but if anyone's ever looking for an extra player, I'd love to do some face to face gaming. Or turn up for a meet and greet. Chat about the chapter. Whatever, sounds great.
Hey Astinus! Good to see more Aussies in Montreal. I've gamed with one not to long ago during his 4 month work here in Montreal. Lots of fun!
As for meeting up, perhaps one day soon. I tried to set something up but scehduled are very difficult. We should degeinately do so! I'll PM you for more info.
On another note... I checked out the DONJON store in Montreal, and sadly I was teribly dissapinted. Not only was it further than I expected but it wasn't too nice of a place and the prices were outragegous. I'm not going back there.
I just PM'd you both, and by the time I'd finished you had replies up!
I'm in the Rigaud/Hudson area, so not far. I'm on the island frequently, and I work from home (read: flexible schedule). So please do shout out if anything's going on.

Quelle bummer!
Le sigh... so it is Gamers World or Valet d'Coeur.
Neither appealing to me.
Sometimes I think I should open a gaming store.

The market in Montreal is over saturated as it is. You would be putting yourself up against enormous powers that be.
There are numerous smaller gaming stored located in the west island, none of which really carry any significant stock. I don't know how they survive. One store, for example, located in the Pointe Claire Mall sells old video games, all kinds of sports and trading cards, and has a small gaming stock. How they survive is probably due to their location. Most west Ilsanders probably can't or don't want to go downtown.
