Can't seem to get on. I was hoping for some sort of chat... I'm just bummed out right now and need to get my mind off things.

Yeah, it does seem the site is down. Maybe the changes and transfering are being done?

I do.

As part of an effort to consolidate the Society and bring it in line with previously stated goals and to simplify and encourage a more robust Crusade, the Society forums will be deleted and removed, as of August 21st. A new Society page is being developed as part of the official TLG site, and all Society-related traffic should be directed to these (TLG's) forums. Domesday will release one more "volume," changing into a different thing thereafter... but, things will continue, if different than they are now, and hopefully all for the better. Chat will likely be done using the existing Freeyabb forum software, though I hope a better system is found, as it is notoriously slow and clunky.

Beyond that, the Contest is going to come to an early end, a winner selected. Whether the prizes change is not my decision. The fate of the Netbook is... well, I don't know. I think I may pull all the material I had added and use it for my own purposes.

Anyway, this is not a bad thing... it's just different. TLG has always wanted to be more involved with the Society. Now they are. There is much to look forward to, such as a rewards program and the like... things that I am not qualified to reveal, but know of nonetheless.

So, thank you all, Crusaders and Society Members -- the Crusade marches on. Bear your swords, your axes... roll the die. Chance awaits, and fortune smiles its toothy grin.

Alea iacta est!

I would at least like for the Netbook material to remain something that would be available to the general public for free.

Yes - the details of how it will shape are being worked on, but I will be reorganizing what is now the main site into a "Squire's Corner" - since it is my site - with a domain along the lines of that, where I will post pseudo-blogs and have a page for open sharing of any free member produced material like Rigon's Book of the Mind.

That part of it has to remain "off-site" a bit because TLG, as a for-profit company, won't be hosting such work because a.) there pages are and should promote "official" TLG released material and, b.) Legality - netbooks that are free can reference and contain some material that would perhaps cross IP lines if it were placed on a company owned page.

I will encourage Society members who want to see something to join forces with other members to put these together and I will be happy to host. "Organized" collective projects won't be run anymore, because they just don't happen - like the Grimoire didn't really shape up after many, many months and I've seen the same thing happen with efforts at DF and elsewhere - it's better if it's the passion of one or a few small collaborators, then it happens and I'll be happy to host.

That said, I will be organizing stuff that's already been done for Grimoire and the Contest into two pdfs for that course of action as well, since people who did participate put time in.

Yeah, I tried today and couldn't get on either. Not too surprised, as this is new stuff and takes time to iron out the wrinkles. No worries though; to coin a Breakdaddy phrase"Dude, this is AWESOME!"

Hey, John, just wanted to say that it was great to hang out with you, and I for one appreciate all the work you put into organizing, planning, and seeing this thing into reality. From doing the early Lure of Delusion maps and the 16 pregens you created, to the scoring rubrik and CL cheat sheet for the CK......man, that's a ton of work, and I'm not sure everybody who attended knows that. I will give you a call in while....got some Society stuff to throw around with you. Later!

The pages are just "in progress" so it will take a bit of transition time.

Just so everyone knows - the "forums" for the Society will be the existing C&C Society Forum on the TLG boards.

(** PS Brian "aztecman" K. - not that I haven't already thrown enough emails at you this morning - but when you and Steve continue discussing I would request that maybe I and perhaps another willing officer get added as mods just on that one Forum)

The new Society Chat room should go live and active via the new pages pretty soon. We will migrate and start meeting there.

Watch for emails from me to members concerning how to access the password-protected part of the site soon.

John

Actually we are hoping to have the chat room up tonight. Brian shot for it last night, but i had him do a few other wonky things.

But chat room first.

I don't want people to think we are shutting out Robert or all the crazy hard work he did on the CC site. Basically he took over what I could not manage over a year ago and busted his *#@! to make it come together and he's done an amazing job. Those late night chat sessions, though I could not join them all the time, were sweet when I could. I want to personally thank him for his hard work! Robert could have done even more if I was able to lend him more support.

But TLG is able to do that now with a big caveat. To do so we have to bring it within the confines of our site in order to allow Brian, our webmaster, to take over all that website work. Not only more bells and whistles but our very own pdf store that will sell things to members CHEAPER. And as Robert said an awards system for GMs.

But never fear, Robert's talents are being used elsewhere, as he is presently working even harder on Engineering Castles..an ms I expect to arrive on my desk very soon (deadline looming good sir Serleran haha). And there are even greater things in the future, or so we hope.
Assuming the chat room goes live tonight, i'll have Brian post a temporary password and login so we can all get in.

Hope that helps.

Steve
