I heard from somewhere offline that there is a Firefly 2 in the making.
Anyone know if this is just wishful thinking or what?

A second Serenity movie? Theres nothing on IMDB about it. Its possible.... I havent heard anything solid along those lines but rumors have been afloat for a couple of years now that a top secret project is under way along these lines. Nothing too credible that I've seen so far.

No, I have not heard any such rumors, but I don'tr frequent places where such things would be lauded or applauded.

There were rumors starting when Firefly (the series) hit DVD. At that time, they made a theatrical movie (serenity). The movie didn't do too good in theaters, but the DVD sales of Serenity were stellar. Since that time there have been small rumors now and again regading another movie. But I haven't seen a good rumor about this in some time.

This rumor was supplied by a family member who doesn't watch much sci-fi but does watch news channels. It was one of those "I saw on the news they're making another Firefly. Was that the name of that one show you watched? Firefly or one of those? I remember it was a show you used to watch. Firefly?"
Or it could have been Rufus T. Firefly getting interviewed or something. I don't watch the news so I was wondering.

Well, none of the actors are currently talking about it on their various bloggythings. And I would have heard about it by now from various friends if they were.

Not that I don't hope for more of the series/ movies. That show was one of the few things on TV that was interesting.

I have learned a long time ago not even to believe it if Joss himself says it (Ripper series? Faith series? Remember how sure those were?).
I think he is focused on Dollhouse for the foreseeable future.
Though I could be wrong.

I dunno... I really hated it at the begining... but I felt it got better towards the end.
Not like Terminator: Sarah Conners Chronicles... that was awesome from episode 1 to the very end... stoopid Fox for canceling it

They're always cancelling our sci-fi stuff. Look at FarScape, Earth 2, the Tick, or Brisco County Jr.

I just saw Jewel Staite (Kaylee Frye) in another t.v. series. But, the life of me I cannot remember which one. I don't watch a terrible amount of t.v. (I went 3 years with no t.v. and discovered there still isn't much to watch.) it was in passing as I was flicking through channels.
As far as Serenity two, I'll put on my cynical hat and basing it off of really nothing but the past... I'd say the show/movies are dead and we all should just move on.

I wasn't aware Chuck had been canceled and I frequent the places that should tip me off to that. It was on the bubble at the end of last season, but ultimately was renewed with a reduced budget. I suppose it's possible something happened over the summer, but that seems unlikely.
As for a Serenity II, I haven't heard anything. There have been rumors about another Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie that would NOT involve Joss Whedon. Stupidest freaking idea I've ever heard. How can you do Buffy without Joss?

Was it Stargate: Atlantis?

Chuck is slated for renewal I think. That's a good thing as the show is really awesome.
I would welcome a Serenity II though

I got told they cut it to make room for Jay Leno. I dont watch TV though, so I could be wrong. I hope so, Adam Baldwin is a good actor and I hate to think his show gets axed.

Chuck was renewed at the last minute, thanks in large part to the influence of Subway and the inspired "Finale And A Footlong" campaign. It's currently got a 12 or 13 episode order, and at the moment the plan is for a season premier in March.
The only new thing coming in the Firefly universe is the Shepherd Book comic series, due sometime in 2010 I believe.
Joss and most of the actors are engaged in other projects. All of them have said they'd love to be involved in a sequel, but there is absolutely no studio interest in making one.

I think we'll see the Dr. Horrible sequel before we see another Serenity movie.

However, coming soon to theatres near you:
Look Who's Talking XVII
Madea Goes to the Store
Nights in Rodanthe 2: Morning Breath
National Treasure 3: George Washington's Teeth
Star Wars: Not Episode VII, featuring Jar Jar
Gamer: Gerard Butler stars as a futuristic gladiator imprisoned against his will in an ultra-violent mind-controlled first person shooter game.
Whiteout: Kate Beckinsale stars as a U.S. Marshall assigned to Antarctica to investigate a murder and is drawn into a shocking mystery.
Love Happens: When a self-help author arrives in Seattle to teach a sold-out seminar, he unexpectedly meets the one person who might finally be able to help him help himself.
Gotta hand it to the studios and their financiers: they know gold when they see it.

I would love to see another crack at Firefly. I'm no expert on the topic, but I thought they had to do a movie(Serenity) instead of Firefly due to the tv rights being controlled by Fox. In a perfect world, I think Serenity would have been more successful as a tv mini-series(with the same budget) on the Sci-Fi Channel. I say Sci-Fi despite the fact that they made the decision to get rid of Farscape after 4 seasons. Serenity on a network of people most likely to seek out a cult sci-fi program would have done very well. At the theater, you're relying on more than just the fans...you need the general public as well. Truth be known, I don't think most of the movie-going public knew about a short-lived program that was on Fox(2003) on Friday night. Short of cable channels, it's my belief that you can't put a show on Friday night on network television, and expect it to do well. Look at Freaks and Geeks(1999-NBC)...started on Friday night as well. Baaaad move. I've said it many times. When some of us were kids(circa late 70's)...you could have Dukes of Hazzard, The Hulk, and Dallas on Friday night. People stayed home(including your's truly), and watched those shows, or other network programs. That was 1978, this is 2009. Just won't work anymore. I digress...anybody know what the status is for Firefly's tv rights? Probably doesn't matter anyway. Sci-fi channel mini-series could do well. Probably better than a movie. Oh well.

No, they did a movie because the fan base got up and screamed holy hell till they put one out. Joss had also promised two more.
And Fox wont give up the rights to the TV series.

Yeah, I think so. I'm not really up on t.v. shows but it did have that Stargate feel.
I think one of the reasons I stopped watching a few years back, is how out of touch I am. I mean Firefly barely gets a season but, Two and a Half Men are on what their fifth? (That was a total guess on my part, I just happen to notice it is still on.)
I really don't understand t.v. at all.

Ah... no. This is not what Joss was talking about. This is fan effort.
Joss promised two more movies continuing with the characters from Serenity.

That dog is not hunting...
Nathan Fillion hasn't mentioned a word about Serenity it in the last two months although there was a Firefly Reunion party on the 11th of July that Jewel Staite did not attend.
Didn't Joss Whedon just get a renewed contract for Dollhouse?
I did find a second reference for another fan flick titled:
Fan film
Browncoats: Redemption
http://browncoatsmovie.com/
That is also in production scheduled for a release at DragonCon in 2010. Details forthcoming at a panel, with a new trailer being released at DragonCon next week. Michael Doughtery, the producer of this stated in an interview that he knew of Two Other fan films that were in production before they even started, so there's yet another Serenity fan film in addition to this and Bellflower.
Reference:
http://www.whedonuniverse.com/schedule.html
My Google-fu is strong, but I'm not picking up a full-length Serenity feature film, even on the daily radar. IN other news Ridley Scott is onboard to direct the new Alien feature movie from Twentieth Century Fox that is currently being written by Jon Spaihts.
Last note... if you are looking for a Miniatures version of Firefly for your tabletop game, you can buy one here:

According to the article it's a Prequel. My guess is what happens on Colony LV-426 before the Nostromo and Ripley arrive. My money is on the storyline about the cool alien shipwreck with giant aliens and the first colonists that settled LV-426. Their Story.

It seems that the best everybody is going to get now for Firefly reunion is that Summer Glau is joining the cast of Whedon's Dollhouse.

I think that Firefly would be an awesome setting for Star Siege.
