Your choice. Elfin is more traditional. Elven is Tolkienesque and the one that the majority of the readership will recognize.

Go with the terminology used in the PHB/M&T to retain consistancy. That's how I see it. You can use elfin in fluff or setting products IMO.

I think Elfin refers to like pixies and Christmas Elves.
I think.

Elven would be the standard that seems to have been set in other gaming material and supplements.

I would agree with Serl on this one.

My buddy Steve doesn't ever take the straight path.
Elven has become the standard.
Elfin is older and used less.
The CRUSADER magazine parts I write use Elven.

"Elven" seems to be the gaming standard.

Elfin is British usage
Elvin is not a word, it doesn't exist.
Elven is more standard American usage.

Agreed. It's "elven" in the other C&C material.

. . .Elvin is not a word, it doesn't exist. . .
I had to laugh at this. It is a word and it does exist because it appears in this forum. Also if a game company decides to use it as an adjective for their elves, it also works and they have in the past. I think it was a West Coast company in the '70s I want to say. We laughed about it at TSR at the time.

For my two cents, stick to the current usage.
I've only seen "Elfin" when someone want to evoke a more mythical feel where the fey folk may not even be a PC race, but a force of nature.
... Oh for my Pendragon days, when PCs ran away from magic instead of divvying it up like shopping list.

Gotta' throw in a vote for Elven, although I'm not adverse to Elfin either. Still, I think I would stick with the prevailing theme and go with "Elven".

I'd have to go with Elven as well. Elfin definately makes me think of that elf who wanted to be a dentist. Legolas has NOTHING on Hermie! Come to think of it, we're only months away from my annual viewing of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

But what if the NPC I'm writing about is a really hot elf chick?

Hot female would be elfin. Right you are, Stephen. We're gamers. Do you expect us to think about hot chicks when the ckg is right around the corner?

Then I hope the esteemed Mr Bradley does the NPC art/portrait, and then I glimpse the model he uses when I move back to Ok!
Other than that I use elven as a normal "PC" elf and Elfin as a much more "fey" type elf, but that's just me

If Mr. Bradley does the portrait, it'll be the elfin backside all the way! Just look at his work in Of Gods and Monsters.

Elven. There is no other way.

The language would be Elvish. Elven is an adjective.

I was always partial to Elfin, but these days it all Elf, Elves, Elven etc. I don't get the drift away from Elf, but hey the English language is so crazy.
