Making a commitment to C&C or Throwing my hat over the f

Post by Sir Ironside »

I just bought a fair amount of stuff from the online store. The Black Libram of Natarus(Pre-ordered) Umbrage Saga Boxed SetThe Heart of GlassOf Banishment & Blight
Still waiting for my FLGS to bring The Players Handbook and the Monsters & Treasures books. I have been waiting for a very long time and I'm starting to think I should just get it online.

I'm all for supporting the FLGS, but sometimes they just seem to have a hard time getting certain product. In those instances, I do suggest buying online--directly from the game company in question. At least, that way, you are strongly supporting the company making the product (meaning they get to keep more profit from a direct sale) if not the game store you want to keep in business.

To be honest the only reason I'm ordering from my FLGS is because they said that if they bring in my stuff they are going to get more to put on the shelves, otherwise I would've pre-ordered when they where first announced.

Well see who your store says is the problem. If they say their distributor make sure to have the TLG phone number with you and give it to them. Tell them TLG is happy to deal directly with stores when the distributor fails.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Thanks, didn't know that. And, yes that is the problem, which is why I have waited as long as I have (Well for Monsters & Treasures anyway). There was suppose to be news today so I'll pop down tomorrow with the phone number in hand.

I've had problems with my FLGS, too, Ironside. I think I've finally got them trained to not only ask their salesmen, but to order TLG stuff when it becomes available. It was hard at first, but I think once my FLGS realized how much I was into C&C they relented and got on the ball...which was nice.

Well here's hoping for the best. I was looking at my list and thought to myself, I'm pretty sure I ordered more than that. Sure enough I forgot to list Of Banishment & Blight. I figured I might as well since th Umbrage Saga Boxed Set only goes up to The Shattered Horn.

I also find that I have mellowed with age... in recent history I was very much against modules. I usually found them too railroady. But I am actually excited to run this campaign. I think it is due to my lack of time to write my own and to have that responsibility shifted to someone else does certainly feel good.

I'll probably continue with the Haunted Highlands stuff and maybe look on the outside at other companies and see what they have to offer.

Man I didn't realize what a attention whore I've been this past week.

You can always take the best bits of a module and leave the parts you don't like.

When you think of it, most dungeon crawls are -- in essence -- railroady. Or to be more specific, Pavlovian. Sure you can go left, right, or straight ahead, but odds are you eventually must clean out the level in order to move the plot forward. And you get rewarded for doing so in a Diablo II way.

As compared to:

* climbing the roof and Swat teaming down windows to the main Goblin King throne room

* Avoiding a dungeon all together and accomplishing the objective with gunpowder
* Smoking out all the exits except one and waiting for whatever tries to escape.

* Finding another goblin stronghold that is on an island ... and cutting the rope bridge
