Anyone else's PHB 4th printing like this?
Anyone else's PHB 4th printing like this?
So I got my new C&C PHB 4th printing today in the mail and immediately set about reading it. The layout is better than my old 2nd printing and things are generally explained better and more well fleshed out. The new illusionist spells are also pretty neat too.
My only issue so far after a few brief perusals are:
The pages of my copy seem to be discolored. What I mean is that in the very middle near where they are attached to the spine the page is a very bright, flourescent white; kind of like copying paper. Right when it gets to where the text starts, it turns a kind of off yellow color for the rest of the page; kind of like the color of the old 2nd printing pages. So basically when you open the book and lay it flat, there is a fluorescent white stripe running down the middle of the book! Did I get a wonky copy or is every one like this? It almost looks like discoloration due to age (like how the old TSR books would turn a yellowish color after a while), but it can't be that as the books aren't even a month old.
Nothing else major that I could find wrong. I'm liking the barbarian a lot, although I think I would have probably called the "deerstalker" ability something else! Other than that, kudos!

*chuckles* Ok. I see what you're talking about, and I have a much simpler explanation.
Lighting.
What's happening is that the paper is reflecting off of itself in the center area, giving it that luminescent effect. As for the 'yellowing', that can be explained by the predominant colour of your light bulb source reflecting off the paper.
Cause its happening to the copies I have too.

Yeah, I noticed after this that when I moved into a different area that it went away. It's a bit odd but no big deal. It actually gives the book a kind of "magical" look, like there's some awesome power emanating from the middle of the book!

Oops, found something that might want to be fixed in future printings. Under the Illusionist's spell listing (pretty sure it's the Illusionist; I'm going from memory here) for "Remove Blindness and Deafness", the description says that it causes those afflictions rather than removing them.
Yes, it does, right after the words "The reverse of this spell causes..."

No, this is under the quick spell lists where it lists each class's spells in order up through the different levels and underneath it has the simple, one-sentence description. I'll get the exact page number when I get back to the book later. I'm pretty sure it's an error because I specifically looked to make sure it wasn't a case of being mis-read or that I had missed something.

I'm with you Robert. I ordered OG&M and the PHB the week after Gencon (ordered them twice) and I still don't have either one.
Edited because I'm going insane today.

I'm without atm as well. Not because shipping takes awhile. But I decided to go the whole "support the Brick & Mortar " route and get it from my LGS. Only they havn't gotten any yet. They ordered three and have my name down as reserved for one. But still waiting for them to get any.

I ordered a few copies of the new PHB, and looked over every one of them. None of them seem to have this floresent-like anomoly. I hope the magic PHB serves you well. All the best.

You might have different lighting in your house? Its the paper type and the light source combined.

Perhaps, but since I have dragged these books from my office, to my home, to another's home for game day, nobody has mentioned any difference yet, as I have also seen none. Not to say that there isn't a weird, mood-lighting thing happenin', but I haven't it.
