C&C Flipbook... A preview of what's to come?

Got my copy of the C&C Flipbook in the mail today.

The C&C Flipbook was one of the unique items for sale in the Trolls annual 12 Days of Christmas Sale.

Essentially, for $20.00 + shipping the C&C flipbook is exactly as described. On one side you have the 4th printing Players Handbook, and flip it over you have the corrected 3rd printing (including shark stats!) Monsters & Treasures book. All together this is a phenominal deal.

The C&C Flipbook contains has the covers of the PHB4th and M&T3rd but in an alternate color scheme. The color is a more of a cream color, similar as seen on some of the recent TLG modules. Total, this book is 272 pages and in softcover form.

Clearly TLG is making strides in using their techology to make these humungous softcover books possible. If you like the novelty, and want a single volume for the PHB and M&T in one book, this is for you.

A big, softcover book like that feels pretty good and is put togehter quite well. I see this book getting a lot of use.

I wonder though, why did the Trolls turn this into a "flipbook?" It looks cool, and works perfectly but is kind of wierd at the same time. Why not just combine the books, back-to-back without the flipping novelty? Perhaps this book is a dry run for what the Trolls might be doing in the future. In another thread releating to the 2009 TLG 12 Days of Christmas Sale, Trolllord Steve gave hint that perhaps a combo book like this (or something related) might be in the works for GenCon 2010. Perhaps this is the fabled Rules Cyclopedia-like version of the C&C rules that were rumored of many, many moons ago. Trolllord Steve did also mention that Peter Bradley was hard at work on this project (whatever it might really be).

If this is indeed a dry run for a future product, or simply just a Troll Curiosity, the C&C Flipbook is quite cool.

The Flip book came about because of Mark. He was indeed working with the machines and attempting all kinds of odd things. My favorite version of this was actually a copy that had serrated edges, but everyone at the table thought it looked odd so we went with the straight cut.

The flip book will not be sold in stores unless a retailer specifically asks for it. It will be a novelty for those gamers who like it. Probably much like the perfect bound copies of the books. Something we offer online.

We are stretching the capabilities of the machines and are looking at branching out....and by branching out I mean just that, adding a branch to our already existing business model...wherein we offer for direct sale various tailored books. Basically setting up a 'special orders department. Before we do this of course, I have to make certain it does not impact our normal outlets (distributors etc,); or enhances them.

As for the compilation coming, yes indeed. We have a big project we are laying out for the summer. A promotional program, linked to Free RPG Day, and the game itself. I saw the rough of the cover last week and Peter did an exceptional job. I don't want to give out too much but its aimed at gaining new players and making C&C more competitive, all the while offering the old timers a book you all have looked for for awhile.

That said, 2010 is going to be an interesting year. Our schedule right now is sparse. We've been working on it for the past week or so to see what needs to be done.

Steve

I was wondering about this, combined they would make a big book.

I have always been impressed with the physical quality of TLG hardcovers. I have used the hell out of my PHB and CZ:Yggsburgh and they both look almost new.

Oh is the 12 day sale still going?
