Looks like RE Howard fans won't be very happy. Crappy directors and screenwriters generally make pretty crappy movies.

I'll probably watch it, but it doesn't remind me of Howard's Conan. Sad, really.

I'll give any REH movie a try, bad directors, screenwriters or otherwise. With the number of people actually responsible for a movie these days I've often found that fault attributed to directors/producers/screenwriters is misplaced at least in part.

Besides, while I don't know anything about Matthew Sand, I quite liked Friday the 13th, for a slasher movie and Pathfinder was actually really good so I'm okay with Marcus Nispel.

In any case, REH characters back on the big screen is a good thing. Now if we can only get a U.S. release of Solomon Kane I'll be all happy.

Regarding Pathfinder, I have to agree. I sort of groaned when I saw the trailer, but I watched it on cable and was pleasantly surprised. It's very underrated.

Looks like a good movie. Not really REH's Kane, but sound none the less. I'm not going to be to picky (like some people ). I'm just glad to see Kane hit the big screen.

As for Conan... why does Hollywood want to take Conan out of a REH story and write a new one from scratch? Even the old Arnold Schwazanegger film was culled together from bits and pieces of REH stuff, but set in a story that REH ever wrote. Hell, it even went against a lot of REH stuff. But, it was a good flick. But why don't they just build upon Hour of the Dragon, or Red Nails or A Witch Shall Be Born (my favorite). They are all short stories (well, Hour of the Dragon is rather lengthy, not a novel, but lengthy), but a good writer could build upon them to make a good movie. But I'll go see it. I love me some Conan...

See, this disturbs me more than talk of directors and screenwriters. I'm not sure I really like the idea of Daniel Cudmore as Conan. I'll still hope for the best though.
Like Peter, I'm also really looking forward to Solomon Kane. It's tough to get a large enough budget to do what you want with such a film and not be constrained by Hollywood ideas on marketing, merchandising and bottom line figures. Here's hoping Solomon Kane has managed this as well as the previews suggest.

Sad thing is, it will soon be playing everywhere but the US, because, evidently, hollywood is to thick to figure out how to market it in what genre. >_<

Maybe it will hit the DVD stage quickly here then, so we can at least watch on our big screen TVs.

At least Cudmore, appears to be the right built, musculature and hair color as Conan. Some of the pics of him I've seen on line give him a bit of a baby face which doesn't fit my image, but the real question is: Can he act?

Right, I've read a lot of discussion about who should play Conan and it usually centers around an actor's physique rather than his acting. I think that is the wrong approach if they want a Conan that is somewhat faithful to REH.

I'd much rather see them hire a decent actor and have the actor beef up for the roll.

Ought to get Hugh Jackman to play the role then. Not like he isn't ripped enough from playing Wolverine.

Unless they take this film full Hercules the Legendary Journey's camp-stupid then it could not possibly deviate more from Howard's work than the first Conan film. Conan the Destroyer was much closer to Howard's Conan, while the first film, though superior, did not bring many memories of Conan to life within my memory. Someone actually killed all the Cimmerians?

Anyhow, just my opinion. I have never read any of the serial novels from the 70's and 80's, but I have read every Howard story.

He'd work for me. I'm with the rest of you; acting is much more important to me than physicality. Much easier to have someone hit the gym for a bit.

This is also coming out on the 28th of May.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0473075/

I'm leaning towards this right now. The Original Conan movie was too good. I doubt we'll see anything like that again in our lifetime.

Something else I'm looking forward to opening on May 7th
Iron Man 2
http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/ironman/

Hollywood is in a slump though. The new J.J. Abrams Star Trek Movie won't be out until 2011, Haven't seen or heard about any other new Fantasy or Sci-Fi movies.

On the Flip side though, Cosplay is all the rage these days... Checkout these stills from the recent...

A Ridley Scott Directed Robin Hood would be interesting.

Right now though, it feels like the 70's again. With a real deficit of *new* *Original* and *Grounbreaking* Fantasy and Sci-Fi movies. Hopefully something will come along like HBO did then, and shake the whole Industry up yet again.
