Updates are a good thing, considering the recent downhill events.

A few months back BD was supposed to show Steve the super nifty DH GM Screen for possible kick ass super thick 2nd Print of the CK Screen.

That'd be a cool update too on whether it is doable or not.

Any chance we'll get some tidbits on the new S&S line? Especially it's compatability with C&C.

Hey webguy! I have you in my sites. I want updates tonight if possible. I about have the mess ready on my end.

S&S is a game Davis has been working on for awhile. I keep putting him off because we have to get the CKG done, but he's bored with that apparently hahaha Its drawn from the classic pulp era, we are looking at the best way to recapture the pulp feel we all had when we read things like Conan, etc etc

OK, if he pulls that "feel" off I will definitely be buying it, even if I can't afford it. IE shouldn't, due to money issues. Kind of like how I ordered CZ:UW even though I shouldn't have.

I wonder if S&S is derived from the pre-C&C game of the same name, also made available by TLG... hmm.

Hehehe... it will come out in a classic digest-sized collectors 'woodgrain box' edition.

Seriously, I'm not sure what this project would entail so I'm very curious. As to the old Sword & Sorcery rules, I'm happy to have the material in the back of an older copy of the Fantastic Adventure. If I ever decided to run C&C a-la 'Whitebox' ... I may go a step further and integrate the older rules and play it that way. Just for kicks if nothing else...

This idea has been rolling around the shop forever and has been the source of constant arguments about what S&S really is. It is derived from the pulp era of course, but it struck me one day while...er sitting down...read an old old issue of Savage Sword of Conan that THIS is what it is. We all like to talk about how cool this stuff was when we were 10. Brawny barbarians and warriors with broad swords and axes cleaving their way through dark sorcery to save scantily clad maids! This is what a whole generation of games doesn't have. They are decked out with hordes of over powered demi-humans, mechanic driven magic and the like.

We are going to give a hand to something a little more beyond the pale...into that realm where swords meet sorceries!

Steve

Of course we have to finish that *^3)@#)$ CKG!! LOL

I very much enjoyed reading your article in issue 10 and I do agree that Sword & Sorcery as can be explored in Howard's stuff (for example) is very much lacking in today's fantasy genre. It's a funny thing though. When I got into the hobby and started reading a bunch of fantasy novels, the stuff I read had been influenced by Tolkien and the constant theme seemed to have to do a lot with high fantasy. Of course, I have to admit that I read a whole bunch of the TSR novels back then too. Aside from those, I read others like Eddings, Donaldson, and Kurtz. The fantasy stuff I kept on picking up seemed to be what I consider 'High Fantasy'.

To me, C&C and AD&D seems to capture that spirit. I look at some of the newer stuff that doesn't interest me and... things seem to have been pushed even further along... especially when one can witness fantasy campaigns that have the 'corner magic shop' and where magic seems even more common still.

I've also found that it can sometimes be very hard to 'ween' certain players off of high fantasy and heavy magic. At this stage, I would rather have the likes of Lovecraft and Howard as my guides as well as the classic myths of old.

Maybe I'll focus on that stuff if I run an Inzae campaign.

Amen!

I actually think C&C can be used very effectively to capture that feel, as can AD&D; Antonio Eleuteri has put together excellent 'Hyborian' notes for both.

However, a game designed from the ground up to evoke the style -- sans demi-humans and flashy magic -- would be very cool. You've already sold a copy to me...
Will it be based on the siege engine? I vote that it should be, because it's perfect for the genre.
