Youre a brave one. That is one thick read (thick prose, not page count).

not aware of it. I don't consider Tolkien to be sleep inducing or boring; far from it!. but obviously others' mileage seems to vary.

That's rather rough, but to each it's own I guess.

I rather enjoy The Hobbit and the LOTR triology. Some of the other writings, I'm not so sure.

I agree there. At the very least the hobbit is the book that introduced me to the true enjoyment of reading, which lead to the enjoyment of D&D etc etc.

His works might not do it for everyone but he has had an impact on our culture and favorite pass time.

I fall asleep reading good books more often than poor ones. And in spite my smartarse comments I like the Hobbit and LotR.

I'm an avid reader, but I could never get into his works. I've tried countless times too, I just don't find his style very engaging.

Not my favorite, but still a good read. I haven't read the books since I was 10 or 11, now may be the time to do so again.

To each his or her own I suppose. Me, I really like the LotR. I re-read it about every other year or so.
