I must've misremembered...

...Aurora's Whole Realms Catalog.

I remember having a conversation a while back talking about an ideal equipment book. Some people mentioned Aurora's but I kind of dismissed it as being a little to cumbersome with extraneous equipment and a little verbose.

Well, in reacquiring my collection of yesteryear, I recently picked one up on eBay for $10. It arrived - it was in excellent condition - and I thumbed through it. Now I remember why my original copy was falling apart and why I had to Contac paper it. It's still a little too wordy (I would prefer something along the lines of the 2e Arms & Equipment Guide's text), but it really is a darn good equipment book. I always thought it was, I just hope I didn't come off that way before.

Yep, and the new equipment book by Paizo is supposed to be heavily inspired by this book. I hope I can tell when I finally get it in my hands, which won't be for a couple of weeks yet. But it has been released.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Cool! I didn't realize that Paizo was doing an equipment book. They put out so much I really start to lose track.

I like the Whole Realms Catalog because it is a lot of fluff, allowing the game world to "come alive" in a sense. Also, it has given me ideas, like the ear razors and folding ladders which I had not considered before reading it... now, I do, but make them magic/technical items so they're not as easy to get.

In addition to Aurora's Whole Realms Catalog, I also really enjoyed the various Volo's Guides, which always seemed to bring the Realms alive. Plus they provided quite a few adventure hooks too.

Those were fabulous, indeed. I liked them tremendously mainly because it detailed some of the more little known thorps and settlements in an area.
