I just noticed this little fact, due to creating a character. Wonder why they decided to bring it back?

Historic flavour. The earliest metal coins in human history were of electrum.

Since you posted this in Other Games I'll guess you are talking about 5e?
Maybe it is because they claim you can play old modules with it, which mention electrum.
