I am not understanding why you'd have to drop all three. I thought those were the 3 points you took for being level 2. A pilot starts at Navigation 0 so shouldn't you just need to spend one point to boost it up to 1? Sorry if I am missing something obvious.
If you are really attached to those three skills the other possibility would be to take Astrogator's Mate, Transport Specialist or Worker instead of Engine Crew. They include Navigation in their packages.
Ah, forgot I'd had Navigation already. No, as I understand the "cost scheme" I'd have to spend two points to get it to rank 1. So I'd have to give up 2 of the 3 skills.
I think you only need to spend one since Navigation is permitted as an Expert skill.

Does it have an aviary? Can I have a Cooper's Hawk as a pet?
If, not how about a cat?

Great background. I love how he is tied in with your campaign setting.
Yes, the lower the AC number the better. When you make an attack you add on your enemy's AC when rolling so the smaller the number the harder it is to hit.
The ship's description can be found on page 241. See, "Free Merchant." If you go to roll20 you will be able to see the floor plan. (Thank you random internet person that I err borrowed from)
Each person has a small room with a bunk. There would be room for a cage or stand for your bird or a nice basket for a cat. Or both. A cat, of course, is always comfortable anywhere it pleases to be.
Thanks. Hawthorn is most certainly descended from one of the halfling children that Penny Scrubroot gave candy to on her visits to Knobhill.
I was thinking that you posted a link to your roll20 game, but couldn't find it. I logged into roll20, but the only Stars without numbers games were not yours. Can you post a link? Thanks.
Is the cargo hold supplied with oxygen, so the bird can stretch his wings once a day and hunt for food (are there rats, mice and perhaps other birds in the hold?).

I could be misunderstanding the table on page 64 of my PDF, but it seems to be saying I have to spend 2 points to go from Skill of 0 to Skill of 1.

I think you are right. Good catch. But I have to say that chart is about as clear as well .. something that isn't.
For our purposes I am going to let all training fees slide for now. At level 3 (should we get there) fees will be applied.
Anyway, fret not. I just have to underline what I said before. Skill rolls may come up occasionally but not routinely.

The ship floor plan/layout looks great - even a spot for hidden cargo (I mentioned on roll20 that perhaps, we're holding body parts and organs for sale)!

Hi. What is the tech level of your world. I'm looking at armor and weapons, so it seems that this might be a factor in considering how to equip my char.
Thanks.

Didn't find any good avatar/char art . . . this mebbe:
Whoa, that's huge.
Also, Hawthorn has a pipe and longbottom leaf. Is smoking same allowed on the ship?
If not, he can make special weed brownies!

Gee. What scientist wouldn't have a compartment of body parts? That isn't creepy at all. Well only a little. (love it) The avatar is as cute as a button.
I haven't thought about tech level. Certainly since you have a spike drive you must be at least tech 4. Will your character need a tech 5 world? You decide. It won't make any difference to what I've mapped out so far.
The ship's scrubbers ought to be able to handle a bit of smoke. It might be amusing to see what happens if you overindulge. Will you trip an alarm? Have you tinkered with the alarm in your room! That's a safety violation your friends might object to. hahaha Now I am beginning to think of your character as a kind of anarchist. I better make sure Todd's access to the medical room is forbidden. The two of you could get everyone into a world of trouble.

I guess my concern or question is . . . if I chose armor that has a tech level of 3 and we are on a tech 4 world, is the armor worthless.
For example, woven body armor is tech 3. If I need tech 4 armor, I have to spend 600 credits for the armored undersuit (and the AC is only 2 points better than nothing).
Which is all OK, I just wanted to be sure I'm understanding.

The woven body armour in your locker is far from useless. It offers 2 points more protection than armoured undersuit. It does weigh a bit more though.
I get where you are coming from when looking at those AC numbers. Even though it doesn't seem so at first glance, the smaller the AC number the better. Like when someone tries to hit you (doesn't matter with what tech level) they add
your ac to their d20 roll. They want to reach 20 or better. So when they add only 5 (woven body armour) instead of 7 (armoured undersuit) that is to your benefit.

I rolled a 6 for the additional credits, so 400 + 600 + 500 = 1500, so I should be in good shape defensively!

Oh, can Hawthorn bring his girlfriend along? NPC or I can outfit her.

Or mebbe I'm thinking of how I would really like to get prepared and ready for space living and travel.

Ingrid is an accomplished pianist, juggler and two time world fencing champion.
She too, attended the Advanced Astrophysics Institute at Fountain's Abbey. Her computer engineering professor was Mitsuhiro Muryama, B.S M.S. Ph.D.
She and Hawthorn didn't really like each other. She thought he was nerdy, arrogant & weird and she didn't like his friends.
When she signed on for her first tour of space, she was surprised to see him at the Helsingborg Space Port. They ended up talking and getting to know one another better and they went on their first mission together where they hooked up.

Yep. I am also liking how easy it is looking to convert it to using the SIEGE engine or even Traveller. As well as Vice Versa, especially Traveller to SWN.

New Game Time 7:00 Central Fridays

They passed on a side security job but took a little shore leave to investigate a so-called haunted tomb. If I may be so bold as to make an inference, I believe the company clerk may have sent them there on purpose. He had the look about him of someone who eschews a witness. Do I sense a misdirection?”

Excellent Penny!
My wife has Murder She Wrote on the tube (not that she watches it, she naps to the show), but I'm reminded that Angela Lansbury was in Sweeney Todd which I'm sure you know.
I've never seen any version, but would probably like the Johnny Depp movie.

I am going to have to admit I have seen neither! I named the bot Todd because Aergraith and I have a silly long running joke using that name. Then I did an image search and found that lovely picture. I could not help myself. He just looked so interesting and shiny. Truly mad.
