Pity I can't visit to listen. My browser keeps getting redirected to ad sites, which Ublock keeps blocking.

That said, FASA Trek was the first RPG I purchased with my own funds. The parents purchased AD&D books for me prior to that. FASA Trek was released in a time period when Paramount wasn't terribly concerned about canon because as far as they knew there wasn't going to be a Star Trek IV, and Star Trek: The Next Generation was still several years away. I has a place of honor on my bookshelf, and I will never part with it. However, it's more of a curiosity item these days, and not something I would play. Not after porting it over to the Cepheus Engine.

Hm. I'd talked to Jim and we thought that problem (ads hacked our site) had been fixed. I'll let him know.

Yeah, even though I wasn't on this show I always like the info from FASA's ST. I tended to use Trav. rules part of the time, but I always liked the setting info. Especially the Klingon and Romulan supplements, first rate stuff!

I always liked FASA but it has been years

I did like the background stuff and used it for flavor in many games back in the day.

*cheap plug*

Take a look at Star Trek: Alpha Quadrant (link in my sig). That's the port of FASA Trek to Cepheus Engine I was talking about. Sadly, there are no fusion Klingons to be found, but that was a deliberate choice on my part. I wanted to be reasonably close to canon.

I have always found that some of Star Trek's most amazing moments are non-canon, but I can see why you made that choice. Gonna check out AQ...

Sorry for the (slightly off-topic) necro, DMMike, but I was wondering what your thoughts might be on the Prime Directive RPG (in any of it's incarnations)...

Hm. Is that the one by Task Force Games, made up more like a covert ops commando style game?

I skimmed it once, but felt its military-emphasis didn't mesh well with the Star Trek paradyme. If I want military SciFi, I go to my LBB Traveller!

...but I'd give a game a shot, if someone ran it. Like Golden Heroes...? :D

Point taken, lol. I really do need to get around to doing that.

Say, have you ever seen Star Trek: Adventures in the Final Frontier, the first licensed Trek RPG from the late 70s?

@Gringnr: The title is "Star Trek: Adventure Gaming in the Final Frontier". I know you asked Mike if he's seen it. I've seen it, and being a Heritage Models product is designed with their miniatures in mind. In fact, it focuses exclusively on planetside missions, though I'm sure with little effort a shipborne mission is possible. There are no starship combat rules and no method of building ships at all. It also had almost no support, with the only supplement being an adventure, "Kirk on Karit 2" that featured in a magazine.

I'm not touching on the game mechanics too much as for the most part it's like a houseruled version of Dungeons & Dragons. Given the game's publication date of 1978 this isn't surprising, but the included adventures in the book really feel as if they are dungeon crawls in space. The game is notable as the first licensed Star Trek RPG, but I believe that's about it.

Is FASA Trek the best Star Trek RPG? Even as a fan of FASA Trek I would say no, given the games that were released later, and given that its license was ended after the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation was in the can. But it's worlds better I feel than ST: AGFF.
