Does anyone have any experience with this system and, if so, what are their thoughts on it? It looks a little intriguing.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael

I happened upon it just the other day. It looks interesting, but I didn't know if anyone had looked at it already and was wondering if anyone had opinions on it.

Hey, this is Randal Snyder - author of SEG. I just saw this post after a google search. If you have any questions about the system let me know. I'm constantly working on improving it and have run several games, demos, and play-by-posts.

In fact, there is an active game on darkandmoodyforums . com and there are several older games out there including a couple that I ran.

Shoot me an email or reply here if you have opinions. I'm always interested in what folks think/need in gaming.

I had read the (then) current rules a while back and it seemed an interesting concept, reminding me of some other games I liked such as Continuum, Timeline, or even Dr. Who. Did not play it, though.

Do you remember what version you read? I'm close to releasing the 3.6 version which did some significant changes to Stun and basic abilities. If you read anything before 3.5 there are a lot of changes. Nothing like when it went from 2.x to 3.0...

One of the goals was to make it compatible with the d20 system while not being d20... Go figure. There are plenty of things that d20 does GREAT, but I always felt the class system was limiting and cumbersome. I actually use a lot of the d20 monsters and magic items etc. for my table-top games.

I've been told that it is a sort of fusion between GURPS and d20 while still being significantly different than both. In a sense, the sytem takes the good parts of both systems.

SEG is definately geared for the d20 style crowd that likes detail. But if you are interested in simple games, check out Simple 10... That one is only ten pages of rules and can really do a lot with very minimal rules.

This sounds kind of interesting, considering I'm a fan of both.

v3.60 Released

Post by sunderedepoch »

I just uploaded the latest version of the Core Rules v3.60 to the website. There are a few fairly major changes to the system, but overall it functions as it did in previous versions. And did I mention its free?

Also, I'm close to releasing a preview version of the Advanced Options book which covers a lot of territory from Perks, Heroic Abilities (feats for you d20 folks), Super Heros, more detailed skills, expanded attribute use, and oodles of combat options. Everything is treated like a stand-alone optional set of rules so you can pick and choose which options to use and which to ignore. No book art yet though... Lots of stuff I need to do yet.

Beyond that, I am hard at work getting the magic rules polished off. For those of you used to the d20 magic system the SEG system will probably blow your mind. For those used to Mage, you will see similarities but with more structure. Again, the idea is for customization to allow GMs to tweak the system to fit them, not vise verse. I've been playing with the idea of making a conversion for d20, but that is a back-burner goal.
