Has anyone gotten this? I've been running a game. It's based on Classic Traveller but changes it a bit. The rules are pretty simple to pick up.
I'm a huge Traveller universe fan. It's given me a break from D&D.

Yep, I got it. I think its nicely done, but I have yet to actually run anything with it, so won't know for sure for a while yet.

I really like the new Traveller. It's a tight little system. Personally, I'm a big fan. My players were so neutral that they didn't play the combat system to the fullest and it caused issues because I was playing NPCs to the hilt.
We wound up switching out to FATE 3.0.

Well, this is the "Other Games" Forum...
I haven't picked this up, yet, either. I was able to snag Traveller 0 a while back, and that has sparked my interest in picking this up as well. Being a newbie to Traveller, I wasn't sure what to expect, and honestly am still a little torn between this and Interstellar Wars.

I did. I decided I would be happier with Traveller.

Don't take it personally, hoss. Some days I have less tolerance for tomfoolery than others...other days I respond in kind.

I did pick up Mongoose Traveller, 760 Patrons and the Mercenaries book. I'm impressed by what I've seen so far. I will probably shell out for the High Guard book eventually. This looks like the best rendition since MegaTraveller, without the tight integration into the 3I setting and scads of errata.
I've loved Traveller since I first laid eyes on it back in 1979. Portions of my homebrew campaign setting date back to 1980 - or so say the dates on the subsector and world data sheets.
It's terribly hard to get people around here interested in an SF game, though.

I have access to Traveller D20... which I imagine is hated for some reason or another.

People's issues with T20 seem to fall into one or more of the following:
- Applying a class & level system to Traveller. This is utterly, completely anathema to some folks, and not something I really like much myself.
- Applying the D20 mechanics (i.e. feats and such) to Traveller. Again, some feel this is a bad fit for Traveller.
- Issues with the rules. Actually, most of that has to do with the format and layout of the T20 book, particularly in the character generation sections.
- Issues with the publisher.
That said, it's a pretty good translation of Traveller to D20, and captures the CT feel as much as possible within that framework. Most of the supporting material is usable in any version of Traveller, and many adventures are statted out in both T20 and CT terms.
If you want to pick it up, I'd advise going the RPGNow! / DriveThruRPG route, or grabbing the hardcopy from Noble Knight or another retailer.

I guess I should have expected the whole feats thing... though I can't imagine that they are as sweepingly vast as 3.X.

I have a lot of Traveller D20 books. (a lot of Classic Traveller books too )
I don't mind d20. But some of the rules in Traveller D20 are kinda 'wonky' to me, like armor subtracting a number of dice instead of from the damage rolls. I'm not much of a gearhead as they say so converting ships even with a Excell file I found online was tough.
Mongoose High Guard rules are pretty simple for ship conversion and I've converted a number of CT and GURPS Traveller ships.
I'm a fan of GURPS but I can't get a strong grasp of the rules. I have most of the GURPS Traveller books and like the setting and the books but I think Mongoose is easy to run, changes some of the things that I dislike about Classic Traveller like death in character generation, and has an easy to learn combat system.

Tree, I played it a few times. It's a decent system. The GM I played it with got bogged down in the buying/selling stuff, so our "adventures" dragged on, but that was a a GM-thing.

If MWM had a clue, this is what he would have made T5 into, instead of the monstrosity it's apparently becoming. This is my favorite version in many, many years.

I have been buying it and reading it for a long while now, and recently even started up a short term game. I have to say I have finally decided I like it. I am sure I will eventually do some house rules to import some specifics I like better from other versions, but over all I like this one best. Plus, since its so backwards compatible to Classic and MegaTraveller, once I do my house rules it will be the perfect Sci Fi game for me, much like C&C is my perfect Fantasy RPG.
something we can agree on.

Any of you traveller fans heard rumors about Traveller 2300 being redone by Mongoose? Saw something over at the 93 Games Studios Twilight 2013 Forums, but hadn't seen anything really on net. Thanks.

EDIT: The guy who wrote 2320 (D20 version, published in PDF by QLI) is going to be writing the Mongoose 2300 AD. Message on the COTI board dated 10/27.
I also found this for 2300 fans: redos of the 2300 world maps for the print version of 2320 that never saw the light of day:

still have my original edition Traveller 2300 and Starcruiser set. Loved how that all worked...

Yeah, dissapointed about what happened to Traveller 2320.
Will be interesting to see a new Traveller 2300 -- still got it at home...
Of course, just need a new Star Frontiers, but that's another story....

go to
www.starfrontiersman.com and enjoy.
I always played a mix between classic traveller for characters and star frontiers for ships. I loved star frontiers but hated that i needed to have high level characters to gain spaceship skills. traeller allowed that and when combined with the star frontiers exp rules. i made that perfect crunch.

Never did get into traveler - either 2300 or 'regular'. I was just intrigue by 2300 as it had it links back to the 'Twilight War' which of course meant Twilight 2000. I might get it on RPGNow at some point for nostaligia and to check it out. I was wondering the same thing if 2320 was going to link in with the new Twilight 2013 stuff, but appearently not.

I'm playing a (technically) MGT game these days. My Referee has some CT books too and seems to mix and match. If you already have CT or MT I don't know why you need MGT too, but if you need something for your kids/players it's fine. But way too pricey IMO.
