Troll Lord Games

Mk I was looking through the pages of this and saw no WoW thread, RPG or MMORPG, so I decided too start one as I love anything too do with Warcraft.

I have no idea what too discuss about it other then how awsome it is though >.> so just post some problems you have, something you dont like, something you think is cool, or just something in the MMORPG that is a glitch and leads too an awsome place

I wanted to love WoW, I really did. I absolutely loved the world as presented in the war games by blizzard and counted down the days until WoW released.

It sets the bar for user interface and just clean, well done game.

But....

For me it lacked the ability to keep me engaged all that long.

My first experience with MMO's was EQ back in '99. I loved the game and got addicted to it. It was challenging and fun, requiring you to group up with other players by design at lower levels and it built a better community in my opinion.

WoW, while well done, makes it too easy to play the game by yourself. This leads to folks reaching higher levels with absolutely no idea of group dynamics. This existed to a degree in EQ as well but not at such an insanely high rate. If WoW was more of a challenge, I might think different about it and it could have probably held my interest longer. As is though, I think the game has too much bling.

Im with DD. I tried to get involved in online rpgs. I just cant do it. I like to have unpredictable players sitting around a table much much more than playing on a computer. No matter how pretty the graphics.

I can understand both of your reasons I mainly like WoW cuz I live in the middle of nowhere and so I use it too talk too people , a reason I might of liked it more is as soon as I made my first character I got into a guild and havent left it yet. Sorry it didnt work out for you DD
and I agree that sitting around a table with people is more fun then a Online game, I do prefer sitting at a table and seeing peoples expressions, and too be honest most people wont be a jerk at a table, while I would say 75% of people on WoW are complete arses.

I loved Wow! I played it for years and it was a really fun game. I started MMO's back when EQ first came out and only now(late 2008) have I stopped.

WoW was too easy now that i look back on it but I had loads of fun playing it.

I could never get past the 14 day free trial. I hated WoW!

I play Warhammer online currently and like it just fine. I mainly play for the RP and the PvP.

One thing I totally loved about EQ had nothing to do with RG'ing or anything but the strange satisfaction I got with a good dungeon group and getting the spawn cycle down to an art form for pulls.

"Allright guys, we've got 1 minute before respawns. Lets take this dude down quick or we're screwed."

I know its weird, but I loved it.

Agreed, I played a barb warrior on Brell years ago. EQ was so frakking hard it made every accomplishment matter.

Never even had the desire to play MMORPGs, my son and a few friends are big into WoW, but for some reason it just never grabbed my attention.

I started out in EQ on the Morell-Thule server then switched over to Firiona Vie when they opened that one up. Stayed there for waaaaay to many years.

Been playing EQ2 for the past few days some. Kinda nostalgic feel, could probably enjoy it more than I did WoW if I actually cared to play long term. I just lack that desire these days.

I haven't been into a fantasy computer game since Neverwinter Nights. Just can't do it. I have time for one geek hobby, and that's pen-and-paper RPGs.

Played WoW for a little while, but soon got bored of it. It's too cartoony for me, the lore to me is "meh," and the community is, in my opinion, rather bad. Now granted, that last point is in proportion - the WoW community is very large, so the amount of ass-hats is also large. But it's much more obvious to me than other mmos.

I play LotRO now. I like it a lot. Actually the mechanics are similar to WoW in some aspects, which I never really had a problem with. The community is awesome, the game is beautiful, and the lore is spectacular.

What he said. I also switched from WoW to LotRO for much the same reasons. I hated the WoW community. The last thing I wanted during my relaxation time was to be harassed by the foul-mouthed, vulgar illiterates that populate WoW. I also found a lot of the quests in WoW to be really boring - when you aren't grinding MOBS for body parts with an abysmally low drop-rate then you're traveling half-way across the world to deliver a message, and then return to deliver a reply.

By contrast Lord of the Rings Online, as Lord Dynel says, is absolutely stunning. The developers have spared no effort in recreating Middle Earth in all its splendor and exacting detail. When I play I really feel like I'm stepping into Tolkien's world. The quests are exciting and epic in scope and serve to draw you deeply into the milieu. Best of all the community is mature, friendly, and helpful. This is really the best online game experience I've ever had.

The idea of buying something and then paying each month to be allowed to use it is anathema to me. Once I have purchased something, I want to use it, as much or as often, as I want.

I played EQ... WoW... Age of Conan... WoW held my attention the longest. It's fun, but just to much like a job. I remember logging in one day and mumbling to myself, "I need to go farm motes for a few hours so I can make that new piece of armor... damn," and suddenly realizing I was paying $15 a month to work.

AoC is a bit different. The cartoony aspect is gone, but Hyboria just doesn't lend itself well to a MMORPG. It's hard to put into words.

EQ was so awesome back in the day. I went back to see what it was like and it felt like dating an old girlfriend. Who was twice divorced. With four kids. With an extra 75lbs on her. And a mustache. It USED to be awesome.

Maybe I'll go back to MUDs on Telnet...

No. Electricity, which I assume you mean by this, is paid for and covers everything electronic -- I don't, specifically, pay for the refrigerator to run, so the "cost" is not for a single, non-essential thing. So, the comparison is not quite accurate.

And, no. That kind of thinking would not have gotten the wife I have.
