Troll Lord Games

I think at some point in the future I'll end up buying PFRPG because it looks better than 3.5... but I won't be doing that before I get my C&C Bundle.

I'm happy with the Pazio products too. I've been playing the 'living campaign' Pathfinder Society mods. I've gotten a few of the Pathfinder Chronicles and the setting book as well. The artwork is fantastic. The setting book has a lot of interesting features too. With different cultures represented and different aligned states.

I already preordered the PF RPG.

Not to run with Golarion (though I am an Adventure Path and Companion subscriber), but rather to run Ptolus once more. I'm really excited about this, actually.

I wanted to buy Ptolus, I really did. I could just never justify the price with myself. Especially since spending that kind of money on RPG's has a direct effect on what else my family cannot buy for the rest of the month.

I made the financial room for it, personally (aka didn't buy other things to be able to afford it). I was immediately onboard (got copy #33/1000). I knew about Ptolus for years prior to the book, and had followed Monte Cook's works since the Book of Eldritch Might. I remember when he posted that thread on his board (Okay Your Turn) asking "Below or Above?" and I was one of the guys telling him "you've got to have both, or it's not really Ptolus".

Ptolus is one of the very best RPG books I've ever read, ever. I am biased obviously. I don't know. That must depend on what one is looking for in a setting. I'm fortunate in that I like all sorts of shapes and styles in that regard, and always have been fond of City-setting products.

In another style, City State of the Invincible Overlord, anyone?

Well, at the time, my financial room was, buy Ptolus and maybe not have enough food, gas, or something else important... so, Ptolus lost out. Today I would likely buy it, since we are doing a bit better than that.

As for CSIO, definitely! I have several copies of that one. Judges Guild, the boxed set that is not CSIO, plus 2 of what Necromancer Games did, and 3 copies of their WL boxed set. I like cities too. Bards GAte, Streets of Silver, lots of them.

Bard's Gate's cool too. Plain vanilla fantasy city.
Pavis, for RuneQuest, also is an absolute must-have if you like City books.

Pathfinder for the moment has two city supplements. One is the Guide to Korvosa (linked to the AP Curse of the Crimson Throne), and the other is the Guide to Absalom (the metropolis of the known world).

Both aren't as good as Ptolus, CSIO or Pavis, each in their own way, but are quite good nonetheless. I must say I appreciated Korvosa more. The Absalom guide seems too small for such a big city. Plus, the lack of a poster map in the latter was really a disappointment - that's a must-have for a city supplement, to me.

When I first looked through it, which I stress is only an impression since I haven't read through it yet, it stuck me as a 'High Magic/Fantasy' venue. There was tons of stuff in it though and worth tracking down if you are a fan of Casey's work.

I'm likely to use it at some point but slightly re-image it to get a slightly different feel but it's certainly good.

Isn't Bard's Gate the product where NG asked for contributions on the boards, making it have many entries for things written by forumers? That would imply many more authors.

After reading some of Casey's C&C stuff, it seems to me he did a lot of writing for Bard's Gate. That's a good thing in my book. Fort Rendezvous has his name all over it.
