Well, at least they have the decency to try to give as much up-front as possible, rather than saving things for later books with titles such as "The Complete Nonsense"

The page count is daunting, but I believe it's sort of a combined PH and DMG. So, in that sense, it's not too bad. Granted, it's pretty drastic when compared to C&C, but not so much if you compare it to 3.5.

Yes, it is combined PH and DMG, only monsters are not covered in it. That is a separate book.

Plus it will be offered on Amazon, eventually.

I always felt that the DMG was useless anyways. While it contained some useful things (magic items for instance) it was mostly junk stuff.

I wish Paizo would learn from TLG... include treasure in the bestiary books. I feel that treasure should be a GM-only thing. Perhaps I am alone in this?

I agree having the monsters and treasures together is a good thing.

Agreed. There's more than a few things Paizo is learning what not to do from WotC.

They may not be doing "complete" books but they have a COMPLETELY insane line of books. They are publishing a book about everything, including the kitchen sink.

If I wanted to break into Golarion now I need a much, much bigger gaming budget.

About time they started to get a decent library of books, if you ask me. Thier quality is so good, the more the better, IMHO.

Looks good but I dunno about wading through 600 pages just to see if I like it. Maybe on sale (sometime in 2015, lol) unless Amazon gets a good discount after release.

It's tempting though (I for one am partial to their art department).

Now, let's say you had a book about...uh, I dunno...dragons. And you published it once all fine and dandy with no problems. Then you reprint that book for some reason. Say, maybe a new edition. But this time, you decide to "break it up" for "better coverage" of the dragons, when really all it is an obvious attempt to take one book and make it two. Now that's corporate greed.
Paizo could have easily have done a GM book, but decided to combine both, saving the consumer easily $10 (assuming a $30 players and a $30 GM book).

Have you looked at a lot of their stuff, DD? It really is very well done. I can take a flood of product to the market, if it's as good as Paizo's.

I was a charter PF subscriber and a GM subscriber for some time. No doubt as to paizo doing good stuff but I think they are overly flooding the works, especially considering they have yet to actually put out their main product yet but you can buy countless books for the setting already and a high percentage of them are in the 30-60 page range. Many of them they could have EASILY combined into a single (and overall cheaper) product, but they did not.

I like Paizo. But, I think they are following the same gluttonous path of WotC in that regard. I cancelled my subscriptions because it was getting to expensive to keep up with if I still planned on getting other games.

Maybe they were doing "capital building." I hope to do something like that with ACE. Only, more staggered because I have little time to write.

That is a posibility Serl, and even understandasble but I still think it is overboard to a degree.

There are already over 20 products bearing the PF logo (not counting the AP's). When a new guuy gets the shiny new PF book he will be assaulted immediately by more products than he knows what to do with or even where to start on future purchases. Not the best of plans I think.

Pathfinder is but a $30 monthly investment for me, that is without the Chronicles since those I buy them from Amazon when the combined total is over $25. If you are not a collector, then it would probably be best to take the Golarion setting in small chunks depending on where you intend to run campaigns. I'm envisioning the girth of material in a similar way Forgotten Realms was released. Back in its day FR kept coming out with mre and more stuff set within the world.

That's how I look at it Shane. It's like the FR stuff in the mass quantity they released it, but all at the circa 1987-88 quality.

But I'm not saying it isn't a lot. It is. But I'd rather see a lot of quality stuff than a lot of subpar stuff released, IMHO.

Well, their world is wide and varied with lots of potential styles of gameplay available. If one wanted to get it all it would be a big investment. But I would love to have a book on the country of Geb(d?) and I assume each GM/player has their own druthers as well.
