WotC on Facebook

WotC is trying out a new kind of adventure called "Tiny Adventures" on Facebook. It is an attempt to get more people interested in 4th edition. I am playing it just to see what's going on. I was thinking C & C could benefit from something like this, but making a facebook app is probably a major pain in the behind.

Yeah, that app has been around for a while actually. I've played it quite a lot. It is neat, but gets old after a while (you start to see the same adventures and items over and over). The neatest thing was seeing what new classes and abilities you can unlock level after level.

I am giving it a test right now, and I must say I find it very slow paced, compared to the other games available. Its mostly click... wait 10 minutes. Click. Wait 10 minutes. Click. Compare that to one of the other, maybe more played games like Mafia Wars where it is click click click click... wait an hour, click click click. I dunno... its just the latter seems to have "more" interaction, even if its just click click. That said, I find my character sucks. Every time I need to do something class related, like attack (playing the dwarf warlord guy), he'll roll a 1 or 3, but the moment he needs to do something outside his ability, he'll roll a 17+. Also, it does not seem to let you repeat adventures if you defeat the final encounter... so, even if you fail at all the build up, if you win the final die roll, you can never go back and try the missed stuff. Maybe that is not true, but I have not been able to repeat some of the things I really wanted to.

Oh, and it does not make me want to play the tabletop version. Its just something to click and wait on, while wasting time doing something more fun.

*chuckles* Been up there for several years actually. Thing is, Wizards put the thing up there, but not too long after evidently scrubbed the entire design team. So the program hasn't had any updates in a year or more now. They just fix occasional glitches.

And once you've been through one generation of a character, you've pretty well done everything in the game there is to do. Later generations 'unlock' some class features. But all in all, its what it was designed to be. A time waster.

Well, I discovered it will let you redo some adventures, but if you advance to too high a level, they disappear completely. My character still sucks, and I have no hope of ever getting any of the magic items being offered in the store because I always fail the tasks that give the most money (I have "rolled" a 1 on the last 6 of them...) Oh well. I can leave it running in its own tab and not have to pay attention, so it has that going for it.

Far more time has been spent watching tv than playing those 1st edition modules which "possessed" people back in the late 70's and 1980's. Anybody who has watched their favorite MLB team has spent more time watching or listening, than most of us get to play in an average week. hehe

Never knew they had the Facebook app. That' kind of thing just doesn't excite me, to be honest. To those who like it - enjoy!

Tried the ranger... he kicked butt for the entire first 1.5 adventures (failed at nothing) and then got handed his pointy ears on everything.... just suddenly started getting 1s and 2s on every roll, even the things where the difficulty is like 10, and he has a +9... he'd still fail! Oh well. Back to the original choice now.
