I suppose I should be more obvious with my zings.. I do sometimes forget people in Arkansas are reading these boards.. I had not thought the internet had made it there yet.

I would find it ironic if we were talking about how well the RPG rules emulated the game play of the video game, but we don't. In fact many of the complaints I have been made aware of are about how it fails to emulate the game. So I can see the irony from that direction, but I have no idea if the same people who complain about those failings also complained about the video gamey ness of 3 and 4E.

I just finished reading the PDF of the tabletop rules. It bears a striking resemblance to the "Siege Engine" system. It shouldn't be all that difficult for the average TLG fan to pick up at all.

My friends said "This is system junk." After reading the PDF, I have to wonder what they were smoking. I really enjoyed the rules a great deal.

I think you will find that your friends didn't really read anything, more like skimmed/spot read through it.

Test them, ask them about what you read. They will have big gaping holes in their knowledge of Dragon Age.

Dragon age is a setting not a rules set. Why not just use C&C or what have you to play a dragon age setting game?

Well, you do need to do some rules mechanic creations. Like the powers of the Grey Wardens aren't too hard, the Templars are pretty easy too. I think just having the Chantry being a major power in the setting sets up the Circle of Mages just fine, I don't see a need to use the mana system, vancian would work just fine.

Still, I do want to run/play the GR RPG and see how well their system emulates the feel of the game itself, even though I admit I like it far and away because of the story elements, the "play" of it was rather tedious/boring, especially programming in all those tactical variants. GAH!!

You are correct in that we only really "need" the map and the writeups for the different regions. However, I'd like to try out the stunts, and the fact that the dragon die determines margin of success for ability tests, before I completely write off the system.

Sure sure. I am not suggesting that the system be written off only that Dragon age is not dependent on the rules used to play only the fluffy background setting. You could play dragon age with 4e or C&C as easily as with the GR rules and have the same flavor. Having beaten the game a few times now I actually think D&D4e is more suited a rules set for the setting than any other option.

I found the major changes from the first PDF:

This is the major stuff.

Page 20, Apostate table: The elf benefit for rolling a 12 is currently Dexterity Focus: Bows. Delete that and put in Weapon Group: Bows instead.

Page 22, Circle Mage table: The elf benefit for rolling a 12 is currently Dexterity Focus: Bows. Delete that and put in Weapon Group: Bows instead.

Page 40: In the Armor and Shields Details section, delete the entire entry for Weight.

Page 41: In the Weapon Details section, delete the entire entry for Weight.

Page 44: In the Adventurers Gear table, add the following:

Quiver 2 sp

Its described on the page, but was omitted from the table for some reason.

Page 57: The last sentence in the Tests and Time section says, "When it comes around to your turn again, you get your three actions as usual." That should be two actions.

Page 61: Replace the Disarm Stunt with this:

Disarm: You attempt to disarm the target with your melee attack. You and your opponent must make an opposed attack roll. These attack rolls do not generate stunt points. If you win the test, you knock your enemys weapon 1d6 + Strength yards away in a direction you nominate.

GM Guide

Page 38: The entries for levels 3 and 4 on the XP table are incorrect. The correct table should be:

XP Total Level

0-1,999 1

2,000-4,499 2

4,500-7,499 3

7,500-10,999 4

11,000-14,999 5

Page 40: In the entry for the Wounding Missile item, the second sentence says swift missile. That should, of course, be wounding missile.

There are Intelligence tests called for on pages 45 and 46. Those should say Cunning instead.

Then Intelligence is used in the following stat blocks:

Angry Villagers (page 5

Haran Mullin and Kesla Mullin (page 60)

Blood Crow (page 63)

I'm looking forward to this as well... I'm at the very end of the PC game and I have loved it. I can't wait to subject my gaming group to the PnP version.

If i were going to suggest any video game to a friend it would be Dragon age. Play it on PC if possible. This video game will make who ever plays it a better GM for PnP games.

Now that's interesting and the only recommendation I've heard that is slightly convincing to me. I suppose I just don't like 3rd person perspective games and the graphics look last-gen compared to other games like ArmaII.

Yeah, the only thing I have seen is what I posted earlier, that the got the proof copies and that the books were on their way and that we would possibly start getting them by the END of the month, but not around the 18th.

I have yet to see/find anything the books have even arrived in house, maybe a GR Blog entry? I don't follow the blogs.

Forgive me but isn't the dice mechanic somewhat odd?

If I understand correctly;

You roll 3d6 plus mods to reach a target number.

One of the dice is the Dragon Die that tells you how well you succeeded (should the TN be met).

But since the Dragon Die contributes to reaching the TN, it means the higher the TN, the higher the Dragon Dice is likely to be, so the more likely your success was spectacular.

i.e., the tougher the job, the more likely you only succeed spectacularly.

I suppose that could be the plan from the start.

I suppose you could argue that is the way it should be, although I'd think it more ealistic that the tougher the job, the more likely you just made it.

Possibly the increasing skill modifiers balance out the Dragon Die needing to increase as jobs get tougher.

As you may detect, I don't know the full details of the mechanic, so I'm likely to be talking out of my rear....again!
