Ravenloft was pretty fun the couple of times I played it. The tiles are a neat idea but I will stick with the ones I already had for gaming. The rules are a very simplifies 4E and are available as a free down load from the WotC website, even better a boxed set expansion is already on the way.
L5R can be had as a PDF from the AEG homepage
These are exciting times to be a gamer. Lots of good stuff coming out.

I watched Ravenloft be played on a video of it at PAX, and it looked like it was pretty loyal to the adventure, everyone died.

I got it. Starter set, Rules Compendium, and the Heroes PHB. I think the format is good, and makes it easier to understand the game for new folks. I never bought any of the hardcovers, so this was a good buy for me, seeing as my brother runs a lot of 4e and it gives me a portable table-side reference. Still...it hurts my head. I forgot how tactical the game is, and how many variables are constantly in play...with conditions, triggers, auras, etc. I don't mind bellying up to the table to play, but I think I will pass on DMing for now. Yikes. All in all, though, they did a great job putting this together I think.

One of my players has them and I flipped through it. Looks pretty cool. Wish I had held off and not gotten any 4E till now. I love to play 4E when im in that kinda mood. It still doesnt look like something i want to run.
I'll stick to rules lite Pathfinder"thats a joke " and C&C for now.

Glad those interested are enjoying it. If I were ever to get into 4e, it would be with Essentials, but after skimming the WotC boards for a few weeks now, it's still a very mixed bag.

Dynel, I give you kudos for being open-minded enough to want to try it. I simply cannot be that open and accepting, because no matter how you slice it, a piece of shit is still a piece of shit, and what WotC produces is a big steaming pile of it.

Damn, I thought you knew me better than that, hoss.
I was trying my hand at diplomacy.
Seriously, that was a big "if" in my precious post. It's about a 1 in a million chance, to be honest. Really, I feel pretty much like you do, and only if my players unanimously wanted to switch and I didn't want to go to the trouble of finding a new group would I even consider it. Fortunately, I don't have to worry about that.
I don't wish any ill to those who like it and play it, but to each their own.

I ran a game tonight using some of the essentials characters, a executioner assassin and a mage. The essentials melee classes play much more like older editions of the game since the at will encounter and daily powers have for the most part been replaced by class abilities and features.
As an example a basic 4E fighters turn might go like this "I use my cleaving strike" rolls are made ect and would have to declare which power he is using with each attack. some people enjoy this quite a lot.
The essentials fighter turn would be more like "I swing my sword at the orc and add +2 to damage because i am using battle wrath stance." Stances work very similar to powers but once activated last until ended or changed for a different stance and each stance effects the fighters basic attacks making basic attacks worthwhile again.

Which is the reason I'm even looking at this stuff. Aside from the fact that the maps, tokens, etc.... are useful for any fantasy RPG.
The Ravenloft board game is a lot of fun, though. I am very looking forward to its expansions.

Sorry dude. It has been a long couple of weeks for me in what passes for the real world, thanks to being harassed by so-called "friends" on my cell phone because I wanted some space.
With that out of the way, when it comes to the turd that WotC pooped out their back end, there's no room in my mind for diplomacy. Similar to what I told the so-called "friends", I don't hate because I am beyond hate. I simply have no pity or sympathy for anyone who could possibly enjoy WotC's rewrite of Chess.

Traveller, I think you might be just all sorts of damaged man, may want to reexamine your life instead of being so hostile on a message board.

I'm sorry. Comparing what WotC put out to Chess is an insult to Chess.

Posting in a thread about how someone is enjoying a game with comments like that....

is a level of rude and crude we normally don't have here. Also attacking not only the game but people who enjoy the game places you firmly under the Trolls hammer if anyone is paying attention.

Tell them that you need to use the restroom / grab a snack / whatever, then hopefully one of these women is your girlfriend/wife and you can extract her after she tells you that she is not speaking to those other women ever again.

I have my moments.
This is one of them.
I do try to be diplomatic, but frankly, I'm sick and tired of it. I'm not afraid of the slings and arrows that people are going to point my way because I believe Hasbro hired an infinite bunch of monkeys to create what amounts to World of Warcraft on paper. I'm not afraid to call it as I see it, and honestly, being diplomatic is simply trying to find a nice way to tell someone that they're full of shit.
I'm done being nice.
End of line.

You hate WOTC and their versions of D&D, we get it. So let those of us who are giving a try talk about our experiences with those who love it trying to maybe find out why we don't like it enough to stick with it.
Obviously not everyone is as vehement about WOTC and 4E as you are, but you seem to also be getting upset because we aren't reacting like you want us to.
You have made your feelings very clear, we get it. Now I think its time for you to "get" that we don't feel as strongly as you do and just accept it.
I agree that you do seem very out of character with your posts in this thread, so I hope whatever is really bothering you resolves itself so you can get back to being your usual self.

Also I HATE those Corn Candy things you see only in October. I mean I really friggin Hate them! I don't see how anyone could ever like them or even place one of them in there mouth! To me its like someone ate some %$%$, right in front of me.
But if there was a huge post about how someone liked Corn candy at most I would pop in and say" I hate that stuff!" and call it a day.
No need to really pour my hate of that candy onto that post or even go so far as to put down anyone who likes it "even if in my honest opinion anyone who eats that stuff is crazy as hell".
Me and whoever would write that post are just not going to see eye to eye because I am friggin the Anti-Corn candy King and well......lets just say they are corn Candy lovers! " shudder!!
My opinion doesnt need to overwrite theres or even to come into it because I wouldnt have anything to inform them about and they sure as $%$% couldnt get me to like Corn Candy!
Now if it was a post about the evils of Corn Candy........I could write a friggin book!
