Best dnd core books to go with quick start guide?

Hey there,

I live in Taiwan and plan to run a c&c game with pals in the US on Skype. As of right now, I don't yet have the c&c core books, it will take a bit for them to get here. I do have access to the dnd core books from, ahem, other sources.

My question is which dnd core books would go along best with the quick start guide. My players might not want to e the limited classes in the quick start guide. If I am getting the c&c core books, is the condensed version worth buying?

Or alternatively, what is some good freely available content which will tide me over for a bit.

Cheers,

Any book you want to use would be best. C&C is flexible enough to allow you to use nearly anything you would want to use, with some light tweaking here and there, depending on what you're trying to do with it. However, I would not suggest "D&D" unless you mean pre-WotC D&D. In that case, I would suggest any of it, but especially the Rules Cyclopedia.

Considering the condensed C&C version is immediately available after buying it (one advantage of pdf = no shipping times), it would be worth getting, to at least see and understand more of the game. The actual hardbacks are likely better for your needs, but you might discover you like the more basic approach... tastes and all that.

There is also a lot of free material for C&C floating around: check out the sticky about websites in the Rules forum, one up from this one.
