Where the heck do you get all your avatars?

Wow! Apparently your file is graphics heavy, my computer keeps freezing up the Acrobat program every time I try to scroll down a page. The Bugbear apparently playing Clackitty is cool looking, I guess that is your new avatar as well?

My daughter draws them, then my wife (who's a graphic artist) colors them or makes them 3d. You should see the "fly through" realistic animated scene she did for my Goblin Valley adventure. Very cool!
Anyhow, all my pics are original.

I'll try to further compress the images to make it easier to download...
Till then, best to right click and "Save as" directly to your hard drive, then open it up from there.

I uploaded Acrobat 7.07 and that seems to have helped, of course just restarting my computer may have made a difference.
Anyways, I like the parchment background, I like the pre-gens, I love the random treasure table, and the adventure definitely looks deadly. I think I will throw this into the Blacktooth Ridge area near Frompkins Pass (the Ranger is the heir to the Frompkin lands) as part of his and the parties efforts to clear the land in order to open it back up for the Ranger to rule over.
You may want to edit your OP to let people know the file size is in excess of 8 Meg in case they have dial up. My DSL even took awhile for some reason. It did the 20 MEG Acrobat download much faster, so maybe it is your host site that is slow.
You may also want to make a download available that is a graphics free version.
Thanks for sharing.

Okay, I ran Killer Kobold Cave tonight. Killed the barbarian. Killed the priest. Knocked the wizard unconscious...but they still had an absolute blast. This is a REALLY fun adventure! Ran like a charm.

Hmm. I'm thinking about making this thing a series with a "killer cave" for each Clakkity creature...maybe 4 more adventures or so.
Killer Bugbear Cave
Killer Orc Cave
Killer Ogre Cave
Killer Goblin Cave
Killer Hobgoblin Cave
and possibly even Killer Troll Cave
(of course for the Troll dungeon, I'd have to sub in a minotaur Ref in place of the ogre).

Why not? They did a series for the giants leading into the drow, so why not a series on little humanoids? Destined to be a classic. Lead in to the "Great Clakkity Championship Series"?

I gamed 5 nights this week with my kids and tomorrow's fathersday. Hmmm...sounds like a good day to run a game.
Enjoy your time with your children...they grow up all too soon.
Happy fathersday all! May your day be full of little smiles and laughs!

We have been gaming most days since summer started. I think we haven't gamed maybe 10 days total, since May 6th. But yes, it is going to be a good Fathers Day, I even get to go to a small and local rock and gem show today in Tombstone.
Happy Fathers Day to all the other gamer Fathers! Speaking of which, I better call mine, even though he doesn't game.

We didn't play as much as I had hoped. dinner and clean up kept us from starting until 10:30.
Anyways, the outside encounters were very easy, including the Ogre. The Goblin Shaman/Wiz had them scared and the Mirror images did help the creature to last a lot longer, but it ended up doing maybe 20 points of Damage to the Druid 4/Runemark 4 Jaygo.
As for the cave itself, the free volley of 6 javelins totally missed, but it helps that the party has AC's ranging from 17 to 22. Now the pit was interesting. Sir Sylva Frompkin was the first to jump and failed his check by a lot. He fell taking 15 points of damage from the fall and spikes. He really freaked when I told him he saw Kobolds pop out little man-hole type covers with torches and light the rags, which he now is able to smell as being oil soaked.
He tried to get himself off of the spikes but failed his check. He then realized he would be burned alive so he drew his Frostbrand in hopes it would keep him alive.
Jaygo then invoked a rune of flying and went down to help Sylva. She tried to lift him as the flames burst into full bloom and enveloped them. She failed her STR check and she took 15 points of burning damage. Sir Sylva's sword protected him from most of the heat but he still took 5 points.
Jaygo then gave Sylva a potion of Gaseous form and flew out of the pit. Sylva managed to drink the potion despite the burning pain, then slowly flowed out of the pit. The party then realized the fire was filling the caves up with a lot of smoke, so they quickly left the caves and waited for the fire to stop and the smoke to clear. Meantime the potions duration expired.
This is where we stopped for the night. More after our next session.

The random encounters were meant to be easy to make the party overconfident.
As for the rest...
Sounds pretty grizzly and that's without rolling the 10' boulders into the pit while they were stuck at the bottom...or were you just going easy on them so they'd stand a chance of surviving?
(since the 2nd deathtrap in that dungeon still lies ahead).
Brian Miller
It ain't called "Killer" Kobold Cave for nothin'. 8)
Even so, I hope you all had a lot of fun. I know we did when I ran it.

Yeah, the man hole covers made sense to me to contain the fire and smoke from the areas the kobolds would have to keep clear. Otherwise the very fire they set would have smoked them out or killed them!
Yes, I did not do the boulders yet, because that would have killed whoever was in the pit. Either from all the damage, or that the boulders would have buried them there and taking all of the burning damage.
Also the text wasn't clear to me on how wide the pit was supposed to be, on the map it looked to be 10 by 5, so that is what I went with.
I am doing another hidden pit for them to fall into and just get the boulders dropped on them. Plus the pit will be in a 10 foot square areas to better accomodate the 10 foot round boulders. It will be moved 20 feet down the passage, where I will have it widen to 10 foot wide.
Instead of moving the hallway with the boulders entirely, and have to rearrange the other area, I am just slanting the tunnel the boulders come down, so it is a downward angle as well as about 30 degrees to the left as you look at the map.
Now encounter areas 3, 7, and 8 are supposed to be directly connected, correct? I was thinking of having area 3 run parralel to area 7 and 8 with little kobold bolt holes only big enough for them, or similiar sized races, to go through between the areas. Plus this would allow me to move the area (3) to be in line with where I am moving the pit to. Plus it will make it easier for me to draw in the little tunnels the kobolds used to get to the bottom of the pit to set it on fire.
Also, any thoughts on how they get rid of the boulder(s) once they have done their job? Maybe an old, mostly used, wand of rock to mud?
I also like your trinkets list. To the point I am going to pre-roll what each kobold is carrying to help them be just a little extra nasty in battle if they are carrying the salt, or even the Ogre urine can add the "disgusting" factor.
Also, on the treasure list you have items with random spells. Do you have a particular method for rolling the random spell?
As it is I decided to limit them to just 1st to 3rd level spells, with 1-4 on a d10 being first, then 5-7 being 2nd level, and 8-10 being 3rd. I also had them be all arcane, but after running it last night I figure I should give a 50/50 chance of divine or arcane.
More thoughts later.

The dungeon lists the random spell on the items to be at max 2nd level but do with it what you like. I roll a d6 to determine 0th, 1st or 2nd, then roll a d4 for class (priest, druid, wizard, illusionist), then roll the specific spell using the players handbook.
The front entrance is described as being upward sloped. It's assumed that this gradient continues all the way through to the boulder room (#3).
The key on the map shows the squares as 10' each, thus the boulder should fit down the hole as is, but again do what you like with the dungeon for you're own campaign. I meant for the boulders to be rolled out the back entrance once the kobolds deterred the intruders, however, now that you mention it, I see that corridor was drawn thinner than intended (not my best effort at creating a map since I used a mouse whereas I prefer a drawing tablet). No upward gradient is shown on the map because the exit on the side of the lair is considered to be 30' lower than the entrance due to uneven terrain.
Also on the map, area 6 (the common chamber or den) doesn't appear to be connected to the curving section of the runway tunnel though it in fact does (as covered in the discription of area 6). On the map, what looks like a straight corridor with no entrance or exit on the east side of area 6 is really a ledge that drops down from the common chamber to the curving section of the runway tunnnel below. Consider the drop off to be either three 10' tall steps which the kobolds can hop down or a steep 30' slope they can slide down.
Also, I use a gradient of zero for the runway tunnel so the kobolds can roll the thing back where it came from after dealing with invaders.
Have fun when you continue the adventure!

Is there anyway to get these pdf's to read like a book? You know, go from left to right instead of up and down. All this "page up" and "page down" and "home" and "end" stuff drives me nuts with the up and down movement. I think I would follow it a heck of a lot better if it would move like a book. I know I do much better with the few things I have read done like a slide show.
Anyways, just thought I would ask since I missed so many "details" you had in your adventure and I know I missed it because of the "movement" of pdf versus a real book. My reading comprehension is normally very high.

In the bottom right hand corner of acrobat reader their are 4 icons that represent page positioning. If you change the page size to 50% and click the furthest bottom right icon (depicting 2 side by size pages) then you can have at least 2 of them next to each other at a time and it's still big enough to be readable.
My personal preference...print it up.
