Any particular, or suggested order to run C&C mods

Hi. Since 2003, I have purchased nearly all of the C&C and Zagyg cores and mods. I have only largely played at conventions(with Todd Gray, P. Bradley, etc) and am hoping to rectify by running a campaign. I'm not much of a writer, and would be relying on a number of the mods, and the Zagyg book to form one low-high level campaign. I have a number of the Blacktooth downloads, Lion in the Ropes, and the mod that came with the screen. As for the printed mods, I'm only missing Wicked Cauldron, Mortality of Green, Chimera's Roost, and the latest Christopherson adventure. Also don't have Town Halls, Storehouse District. Otherwise, I'm pretty well covered when it comes to C&C and Zagyg. Is starting with Rising Knight and Black Tooth the way to go, or would another series be preferable? I hope to get use out of all the mods, hopefully tying them together somehow. Any help?

I would definitely start off with A1/Rising Knight. I also recommend getting "Keep of the Borderlands" in PDF or print to run with it. Then, as you run things you can fit other mods in.

i have done things this way:

start with yggsburgh as the base camp, and from there, any numerous adventures can spring. i included the village of hommlet as a section of the city with all its attendant problems (temple of elemental evil which was located under big fish island) but first ran rising knight and then dark chateau. we haven't gotten very far yet, but i'm going to use shadows of the halfling hall as another section of yggsburgh for now. just do what has to be done until it's finally out.

I'll take all of that under advisement. I do have Keep, but it's a really nice, mint early 80's copy, so the pdf might be the way to go. So, Keep is to be combined with Knight. I own Dark Chateau, so that might be an option as well. I'm assuming some of the mods will have to be scaled up or down? ANd, from there, would it be best to stick with the A series in order after some of those. ANd, I'm assuming some of the other mods are best left for other campaigns in the their own series?

Yeah, the only mods I would use in combination with the A series are the stand alones, like Halflings Hall, Mysterious Tower, etc...

The Caves of Chaos from Keep on the Borderlands are good for putting into the ridge area, either as a full fledged complex or broken up as random encounter areas.

Yggsburgh is used by me as the nearby "big city" that is 60 miles down the road going south out of the Blacktooth Ridge area.

You can even add in the "Against the Giants" series when they get to 7th level by have Blacktooth Ridge be foothills to a huge mountain chain behind it to the east. I kind of did it, but I made the mountain chain very wide (over 120 miles wide, over 200 in some stretches) and had Greyhawk/Sterich be on the other side.

In my campaign world Airhde used to be the great Bright Desert of Greyhawk. Now the learned of the world know that a god named Unklar actually created either a desert illusion to cover Airhde and isolate it from the world, or another theory is that he even went so far as to create a dimensional rift between the two lands that had people from Greyhawk going to and from some desert plane.

They also now realize that the great calamity that ancient Oerideans ran from was actually the arrival of Unklar, and the great wars and battles fought were actually against Unklar and his minions.

Anyways, that is the "core" of my campaign world.

That's awesome. Definately a lot for me to consider and digest. I've got to start a C&C game soon, or it will be impossible once 4th hits the shelves. I got turned down by two friends when I asked them to play a two hour, non-fantasy (Victorian horror) session of Savage Worlds. They simply don't want to play anything until 4th arrives. Even if it's not fantasy.

I'm curious. How many of the old D&D mods are available on PDF. I'm sure there are off the beaten path methods of getting them, as well. But, how many (1st edition in particular) are available through legal channels?

All of them. Paizo and RPGNow have them.

Paizo has approximately 113 1E modules available for download at $4 each with an additional 65 modules for B/X and Mentzer. Here's a link:

There are gaps, at least through Paizo. RPGNow may have the missing material, but I suspect that they have the same selection.

Thanks, guys. I'll probably buy some of the older ones used just because I love those covers. BUt, for playing the pdf's would be better.

I believe that Paizo and RPGNow pretty much have the same selection. I have noticed though, that Paizo is a little cheaper on their PDFs.

I know that Wizards of the Coast may have them in the D&D archives. I seem to recall they posted hoards of them, palace of the silver princess etc. I thought I had downloaded a bunch, I could be insane though...

Free is always better then Drive Thru.

I must say though, C&C material is new, and if you have old gamers or nosey players, old modules may not be the best answers. Play a couple of C&C mods, buy C&C Engineering Dungeons and Gygax's Insidae and create your own.
