I was hoping for some suggestions on what to do if the PCs decide that the best time to enter Baleon Nakt is during the time when Gritznak is in Malforten collecting his monthly tribute.
They seem to want to take some of the loot and split, but the dungeon is working against them. Should there be anyone in the sacrificial chamber?
rising knight -- so what do you do if?

I would have it, that Gritznak will know that adventurers have come into the town. He'll not be certain whether any of the town's people or militia will accompany the party to his lair, nor will he be certain of the strength of the adventurers.
So, he'll not wish to risk meeting them on the road - better to wait in his dungeon lair.

I'd have it depend on the actions of the party - can they stealth in a la Conan the Barbarian, or are they made of brass and walk in directly, casting aside the sundered remains of felled villains along the way?
And, there should always be someone in the sacrifical chamber... even if that someone is an undead.

Yeah, actually I had forgotten much of this module and had to reread one section . . . Gritznak will be in this chamber - needing one more sacrifice (hehe, a PC natch) to finish raising the Dark Knight - Unguaith Kine (who is next door in the burial chamber)!
Additionally, I don't think Gritznak goes to Malforten - only his henchmen.

well suppose
Well suppose Gritznak does go to Malforten once a month, and the PCs have been able to determine exactly when he'll be there. Gritznak knows the players are around, and basically what they are doing, but they were able to ride up to Baleon Nakt rather quickly after finding the location. Gritznak is in Malforten, or at least out of the temple, when the players arrive there.
This group is definitely more of the stealthy type, and haven't set off any alarms in the dungeon (except the ghoul on level 2).
Undead in the sacrificial chamber, what kind?
