No, they played very differently.

Tree, I get they played differently. different characters, different levels, etc. I mean the layout.

both too place in a wizard lair, both had a magical portal that needed 5 keys to open, both had 5 sections for each key with a gardian and both had the major opponent in last foom after magic portal opened. I read fingers first and thought I would really enjoy running this module. Then I read the Palace and thought i just read this.

All I can say is they played very differently. My players never mentioned any similarities. It felt different to me while I was running them too. Different monsters, different strategies, etc... Plus I had a lot of fun playing the Rakshasa and the Simulacrum.

I haven't read Palace of Shadows, so I can't speak to the similarities. I can say that, in my opinion, calling the Fingers a "wizard's lair" is a bit oversimplified.

Well, if one looks at it objectively, the majority of modules pretty much have the same plot. "Sneak in, evade traps, kill, loot."

I agree. but simplified i thought they were verry similar. just read them back to back and see what you think. Its no conspiracy, theory like the world ending in 2012 due to some galactic alignment or the invention of time travel. Just my humble opinion.
