Ok, we are about to start our Castles and Crusades game.
I am hoping to get a few quest ideas brewed up before we get started, but they have to fit in with the scenario the players will be put in.
First, let me explain the scenario.
At one point in history, there was a great city of Men, Dwarves and Elves, Dwarves living in a vast city underground in the stone, Men in a large city on the surface, and Elves in a huge tree top city above the Human city. (I am pretty sure I stole this idea from somewhere, but can't remember where)
The city was intended to be a bridging point for the good races, so that they may reach an understanding of their differences, they learned of each others cultures, and soon developed sections of their own cities for the other races, some elves would live with the dwarves under ground and learn about them, and some men in the trees, and the all inter mingled, the dwarves built great halls for men and elves in their city.
WELL.
The city was ransacked and destroyed by a great evil force, the men and elves fled and took refuge in the dwarven halls with all their world possessions and a long siege took place, eventually all the inhabitants of the town were killed, the great evil force built a huge dark keep over the level town, and turned the huge dwarven city into his dungeon, feeling it with his evil undead, orcs, demons, and what nots.
This all happened centuries ago, the great evil force has been destroyed, his keep leveled to the ground, and the entrance to the dungeon was lost, until now.
The entrance was found and heroes and villains flocked to the dungeon for glory, gold, knowledge or what have you. This also brought merchants and tradesman as well seeking to provide supplies to heroes who found gold in the dungeon, they all form a sort of shanty town above the entrance of the dungeon.
So that's where we begin, the heroes are adventuring in the dungeons for treasure and glory or whatever personal reasons they have.
The problem I am facing is that I am a bit concerned I have painted myself into a corner with a limited amount of quest types to run.
Quest ideas so far include
...
Historian wants some historic text from within the dungeon but can't go get it himself, pays heroes to do it.
One of the merchants children wanders into the dungeon, heroes set out to find him.
A particular dwarven ancestor needs to go a certain hall of the dungeon to open an old door that will only open for his bloodline to get some of his families possessions back, pays heroes to guide him.
Another adventurer challenges any group of heroes to bring him back the head of a monster that nearly killed him. Heroes take challenge.
Heroes over hear of plans of an attack on the shanty town, must try to prevent it.
...
But other than that I can only think of a bunch of different go and fetch quests.
Let me know if you guys can think of anything else good, or also where I stole that town idea from.
Thanks in advance!
