Blending two campaigns together [journal update]

This session was a sort of crossroads. Earlier this past year, I was running a D&D 3.5 with six friends. Unfortunately, four of the friends had to leave the campaign, and I discovered Castles & Crusades. There were several problems with just converting over: the two remaining PC's were 3rd level sorcerors, and I didn't feel like forcing the players to lose a lot of power (and their light crossbows) by switching to wizards.
Instead, I launched a whole new campaign with new players, but recycled the universe and the plot. The new PC group came into the story by another path, and were soon on their way.
But today, the PC's were getting pretty much up to speed, and it was time to dovetail the two together. The new/current group of PC's met two of the old PC's, now as NPC's. It was interesting to see the one player who had been in both campaigns view his old party's activities through an outside lens. Now, the new group is out to rescue the old group and complete their mission--the thwarting of the plans of the Slairu and their suspected plan to resurrect an ancient black dragon.
