St. Patty, Leprechauns, and C&C

I ran the 1st-level "Wine Harvest" mini-addy from the City of Greyhawk box set Friday night for my 4 year old son (Fighter) and my mom-in-law (Paladin).

Nothing better than a leprechaun adventure on St. Patty's Weekend.
It was his first RPG session and it worked nicely. He runs a fighter PC so all he has to do is roll a d20 and then damage. His grandmother does all the hard work. Heh.

Their characters met at the Green Dragon Inn in Yggsburgh. The PC's are approached by a man who owns a vineyard north of town (I placed it on the banks of the Urtford north of Yggsburgh). Strange things have happened by his eastern boundary wall and his laborers won't work there during the day and make sure they are in the bunkhouse by dusk.

Apparently, a local tribe of goblins is being tormented (unbeknownst to them) by a faerie dragon and eight leprechauns. They telekinetically steal the goblins' sacred stone and send it careening towards the vineyard. This has been happening for 5 nights by the time the adventurers come on the scene.

Of course, the dragon and co. decide to pick on new targets when they see the PC's. So, after 4 nights of attempting to figure out why the goblins are "invading" and what the lights are that keep blinding them, the PC's cry out loud to the lights and laughter to confront the unseen pranksters.

The PC's come to an agreement with the dragon and leprechauns to leave the vineyard alone, but the goblins have been frustrated by their constant taunting (still not knowing the culprits), so they attack the bunkhouse and main house that night. The PC's take out 4 goblins and their leader, routing the rest and saving the day (middle of the night, actually).

Is it wrong that my son kept wanting to go back to "the bar" when they couldn't figure out what was causing the trouble? A red flag went off in my brain. Maybe his Irish heritage is really strong?

I hope you had as enjoyable a weekend as I did -- despite the ice/snow shoveling I had to do Friday evening and Saturday.

Ahaha! Very cool post, Z. The perfect adventure for the day. I also had a good day running BFRPG in a like theme. We played a "tavern adventure" for 4 hours that day, with lots of beer and fellowship at the table.

Thx for sharing!
