Testing interest in an online game.
Testing interest in an online game.
I am testing interest in an every other weekend game running opposite of Chuck's Sunday game or on Saturdays. Time of sessions would be either 7:00 or 8:00 central with games running 3 to 4 hours depending on player preference.
I am mostly interested in running C&C game that is "mostly" by the book and will be run with a "low magic" feel.
I have a classic series of modules I want to run or I may run CZ.
World Setting - to be determined but most likely making it up as I go with influences from all over.
Looking for 4-6 players.
Possible start date - to be determined based upon interest and further discussion.
Games will be run via Skype and Maptool.

Hey Nate. Would love to play. In terms of time, 7 Central is 9 my time. If its on Sunday (opposite Chucks, I'd prefer to start at 7 Central since its a school night). If you opt for Saturday, any time is fine.
Every second week would be great (although every week would be better
)
Let me know...

The only question is, how advanced of a copy of maptools are we going to need to run it?
Re: Testing interest in an online game.
Maptool version is open to discussion. Most likely stay with what we are running in tree's game until I delve back into making items for Maptool.

What version is that Nate? We are still on b69 in my game as we had no reason to upgrade. It was good enough for what I needed it to do in my FR game.nwelte1 wrote:Maptool version is open to discussion. I think we are way back at 63. I am on a new computer so I am not sure what it was. But Nwelte is a wizard with the maptools so he often needs the shiny new versionsLordSeurek wrote:What version is that Nate? We are still on b69 in my game as we had no reason to upgrade. Re: Testing interest in an online game.
I like the sound of "low magic" and "mostly by the book".
I could commit to Sundays any time, especially on an alternating-week schedule. I am in CST and flexible in terms of duration and start time. My RL game is on Saturdays, so that's out for me.
I have a reliable broadband connection and it would be a rare occurrence to have a conflict on Sunday.
So, low magic feel, meaning scarcity of magic items, potions, and NPC casters, a few evil sword-and-sorcery type wizards living in towers and holding most of the magic knowledge?
Or low magic for the PCs, meaning no clerics or no wizards, or if they exist they have a limited spell list or something?
Will it be a dark, grim, deadly world with no hope of survival, trudging hopelessly through dark caves and eldritch mists, taking solace and joy where we can find it as we test each new day to see if it's the one where we are called to Valhalla to tell tales of the ogre we smashed before our head was twisted off?
Because that would be awesome.

Re: Testing interest in an online game.
Yeah, I think we are on Maptool version .63 but I may want to up that to .67 or the latest. I got to poke around.
As for low magic, I define it as magic items being scarce. No "Ye Grande Ole Magic Shoppe". True Wizards are around, but they horde knowledge and take few apprentices. You might be able to find some items of magical healing, but at astronomical prices. I want players to cherish every magic item they find, and really question if the expenditure of their items is worth it. I also want to avoid the "arms race". (Having to give monsters and NPCs ever greater magic items to compete with the PCs.)
For setting, I am really thinking of winging it as I go and letting the players aid in building the world as we go. But that depends on what module I open with and how I can adapt that to the world. I have a few ideas I am kicking about.
I am strongly leaning toward opening the game with T-1 with necessary cosmetic changes, but I am not sure if that fits into my world concept. I would also need to reduce the magic available through the module.

I think I could dl .63 or .67 to run for the game and still have .69 up for mine? Anyone know? If not, there may be an issue if I try and run my game at a lower version as all my tokens and maps have been done in .69...nwelte1 wrote:Yeah, I think we are on Maptool version .63 but I may want to up that to .67 or the latest. As for low magic, works for me. My game is crazy magical now with the average PC at level 13.
I have first dibs on cleric (my fav class to play) as all wll worship those couple of hit points I can dangle in front of peoples noses LOL

Nate's games are fun and his knowledge of MapTools is outstanding. I just wish I had time to play in it. Nate, let me know how the newer version of MapTools runs. I may want to upgrade my game. And your definition of "low magic" is perfect. Have fun everyone.

It is good to hear we will have a cleric. I bet will will need one, whether we venture to classic modules like Village of Hommlet or Castle Zagyg (or some nefarious Weltian mix of the two!
Re: Testing interest in an online game.
T-1 is an excellent starter module. You can also mix it with bits and pieces of other starter modules like B2 (Keep on the Borderlands) or L1 (secret of Bone Hill) or whatever.nwelte1 wrote:Yeah, I think we are on Maptool version .63 but I may want to up that to .67 or the latest. As for low magic, there are many DMs who have tried it but it is tough to make it stick. D&D is a combat oriented game which necessitates lots of healing and powers for players (or else they have to camp in the woods for 2 weeks after every 3 fights). If you are running the classic modules, you will find they have quite a bit of magic in them (on both sides), partly so the PCs can come out the other end intact!
Dropping magic shoppes would work fine though
Sounds like you are getting a fun campaign together
Re: Testing interest in an online game.
Greetings! Can newbies to C&C get in on this game? If so, I would really love to play. I am in EST.

Yes newbies are welcome.
I have not decided on a start date yet. The holidays are throwing a wrench in my ability to sit down and focus on gaming and mapping.
I hope to have a tentative start date and time in the next week or so.

Cool! Count me in, then. I am assuming you are planning on running the sessions on Sunday evenings based on the previous posts. Is that correct? If we are voting on times, I would prefer after 8:30 Eastern, but I am flexible. I will PM you my Skype ID.nwelte1 wrote:Yes newbies are welcome.

Re: Testing interest in an online game.
From what people posted, it looks like the game will be Sunday's opposite of Rigon's.
L.S. said Sun at 7:00.
Dem. said Sun early.
Aerg. said Sun any time.
Arm. did not indicate.
Csp. said Sun at 7:30 cent.
So I am thinking Sun at 7:00 p.m. cent. Objections and thoughts. Start date still uncertain. As most who have gamed with me know, there is a slight break in the game most nights for me at 7:15 or 7:30ish so I can kiss my children good night.
Due to some world ideas I have, I will be limiting pantheons. Not sure which ones I will let in yet.
I am willing to allow all alignments with a few important caveats: 1) No PC v. PC killing, theft, etc., 2) You can use your alignment to justify pleasant and roleplay limited discourse amongst the party in order to develop character and back story (i.e. a chaotic evil pc's regular disregard for the law will grate on a paladin, but a paladin can adventure with an evil pc and see doing so as a means of trying to correct the evil character's personality), 3) if a single player has a problem with allowing evil alignment, following rules 1 or 2, or breaks rules 1 or 2, evil alignments will be instantly banned and modified to neutral.

I am in the same boat if we start at 7 Central. I gotta make sure the kids get in the bed on time.nwelte1 wrote: .... As most who have gamed with me know, there is a slight break in the game most nights for me at 7:15 or 7:30ish so I can kiss my children good night,
I am cool with your alignment restrictions. I normally lean toward Chaotic Neutral, but it depends on the class I am playing, setting, back story, etc.. I normally shy away from playing magic users, but I am open.
Re: Testing interest in an online game.
I would love to play, but I have to have some Sundays free. If you can work me in as a guy who can be there or not be there I can join. If so I would like to go with a straight fighter.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I'm fine with the alignment restrictions. I'd like to play a ranger or a thief, but I'm flexible.

Pretty much all the on line games tend to be 3 hours.

I would assume a microphone is all we need. The other groups I play with are voice only with a virtual tabletop (i.e., MapTools, OpenRPG, etc. -- I think we are using MapTools, but I am not sure of the version.)Demiurge wrote: Do I need a web cam or do you just do voice via Skype? Skype voice only. Maptool version undetermined yet.

I am planning on starting 1-23-11. How many are still interested? I will be posting character gen rules and etc. later. As I said, I plan to run BtB as much as possible. (Why? Because I want to see how the system runs without a lot of tweaking.) If you have played in one of my other games, scrap what you know about my typical house rules.
