I will leave THIS here in reserve for this week's session

If we are heading back to the moathouse, I just have a feeling we are going to need it

After coaching kids all week, I crashed when we flew home yesterday. I was asleep pretty early. Sorry for missing the session Nate.

I think LS is on the road for some hockey game with his students, so he may not make it. He mentioned having internet at his hotel, so hopefully he will. Barring unexpected stuff I will be there, Titania should be as well.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Yeah, I am out of town now but I should be back home in time to log on and play. As par the norm, I'll be on once the kiddo goes to sleep..

Well if you don't make it I seem to be able to keep you alive and not captured, even if barely.

Wife is studying for a big test at the library, so I got to put the kids to bed by myself. I may be a little tardy, but I will be there. See you in a bit!

I forget out damn hard level 1 can be. Great game last night. I will update the thread over the week, and then you all can go shopping.

People either love or hate level 1. They love it because it is the most challenging and adrenaline rush level to play, or they hate it because it is the most challenging and adrenaline rush level to play. Personally I like levels 2 to 4 best. Still a lot of challenge and adrenaline, but not so much that I feel stressed out.

But that also depends on the session, with us gaming only 3 hours we don't really have enough happen to make it get to stressed out. Now if we played 6 to 9 hour sessions, it may get to feeling stressed out.

Another fun session. What with our front liner playing the whole session with 1 hp, various attempts to "prick" unwilling participants, and the smashing success of Operation "Sleep the Druid" we have clearly prepared ourselves to take on the Moathouse. After all, the levels we have added and magic we have found will surely make it easier. ;)

1st level is a fun challenge on occassion but you don't want to spend too much time there. Both for the DM and the players, the constant camping in the woods for a week after every fight can be trying. It is no coincidence that Gygax's later game started adventurers off at the C&C equivalent of 4th level-ish.

I think in pre 1st ed, 1st level clerics had no spells, so no magical healing at 1st level! So either there was easy access to magic or you literally camped for a week after every fight

BTW-Nwelte: was that encounter with the boy in the module or something you added?

Yeah, I liked that encounter with the leatherworker and his wife. Its cool having your suspicions aroused and trying to figure out what the heck is going on within acceptable parameters. Which is a bit easier for us since we don't have a Paladin around... but with several of us being "good" we still have to play pretty nicely.

Still, wish I was C/N so I could have picked up that boys head and...

It was a random encounter I rolled during the first session off of the table from page 30 of the T1-4 complete module. I am trying hard to not have "random encounter" be an encounter with no point beyond combat. As a first encounter, I figured fighting a werewolf right of the gate was too much so I worked it into the story. So beyond the fortunate roll (from my point of view), the last two sessions have been my own mad design. A lot of it playing by ear based upon what the party is doing.

Once I knew the party was going to track the beast, I wanted to create an encounter where the party would be open to being surrounded and over whelmed by a pack, but not out right slaughtered. I also knew that I wanted the party to discovery the werewolf's presence was party the parties' fault.

As for my ruling on silver. When I read the M&T, I see nothing that says they react negatively to it by mere touch of silver. This is distinctly different than the vulnerabilities of a vampire. Granted, my view of werewolves is limited and not influenced at all by werewolf fiction (never cared for or read the stuff).

For the parties' info., I was handling the double damage without the parties' knowledge. Hence why you could chase the werewolf off with a couple of hits.

Good stuff. I thought you handled it well. I never roll on random encounter tables. I roll to see if there is an encounter, and if there is one, I look at the table and choose the encounter that I think would be most amusing ;)

The only flaw was the treasure afterwards. I would think fighting off a sparkly teen werewolf would at least be worth a helm of brilliance. Maybe two.

Wondering your thoughts on Crits Nate. I always remembered in d&d days of long ago when everyone would huddle that much closer to the table when someone rolled a nat 20. Sure, there are all kinds of tables for crits, and just as many people's views on it. Yes, I know this is c&c and not d&d, but, why not add something in for someone who rolls the 20? Extra damage, extra attack, or go crazy and use a table like myself???

Just seems rolling a 20 or a 1 on an attack was always followed by something cool, or lethal. Now its like, yeah whatever, take the 2 damage and I'll see ya in 10 seconds....

But it was a treasure 4 creature, which only has a 20% chance of 1 magic item having a exp value of 500 or less. Odds simply were not with you. I did roll random loot through my treasure generator with it set to hoard (double rolls), but still no dice.

My regular house rolls allow for crits. I purposefully left them out cause I wanted to see how things went without house rules. If the party wants them, I will add them.
