These DL's are very helpful:

Character sheets:

http://www.cubicle-7.com/acrobat/charac ... teiger.pdf

Interactive:

We are tentatively scheduled to start January 21st.

The FATE SRD:

http://www.faterpg.com/dl/sotc_srd.pdf

In the SB book I suggest you read pages 21 to 29 for the basic rules and then pages 30 to 56 for character creation. When looking at character ideas remember your going to be "Space Marshalls". Also take that into consideration when you figure out your Aspects. I recommend no fewer than 6 Aspects and no more than 10. I have yet to decide on the skill pyramid. Since this is basically a one shot I am leaning towards a higher pyramid.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I decided on the "skill pyramid", it is 1 great, 2 good, 3 Fair and 4 Average. Look at "The Ladder" on the Quick Reference Sheet to see what they mean.

FATE is probably my favourite system right now. I''m converting Fates Worse Than Death to FATE right now for Vajra Enterprises.

Eventually I'm going to need game testers so I'll post here when done and need them. So, if your interested you can pm me with the specifics when I post it. Both experienced and new players would be needed.

As far as picking Aspects go, remember that for every stunt you pick it takes away one aspect slot. I recommend, if your just starting out, to take 3 or 4 aspects and 3 or 4 stunts leaving 4, 3 or 2 slots open for further character development. Especially if you are new to the system, it'll help get you used to how aspects work and how stunts work. You'll then have a better idea how it all comes together and can decide what you'd like to do with character growth.

We have done playtesting before. We do games on a roughly 6 week rotation, so we can probably do it.

BTW guys, Angus wanted me to pass some info on to you:

"We'll be running a PDF sale through the OneBookShelf sites (RPGNow and DriveThru) in the next couple of weeks where the core PDF rulebook for Starblazer will be available for $11 so that might be an option for your players to get a cheap PDF of the book. Otherwise I'm happy for you to use the DropBox system if you are happy with it and delete the file after the game has wrapped.

Hope the game goes well and thanks for the support!"

I'm... somewhat away... from done. This is a non-paying job, that I do when I can.

I suggested it to Brian at Vajra and he was quite enthusiastic and is willing to publish it when complete. I'm not enamored with the ORC rules, so I was going to do it anyway... it just took off in an unexpected direction. So, yes this will be printed and yes all game-testers will be credited in the book.

Right now I am looking at doing a first game-test version via Lulu. I'll be putting up the option to download a free pdf or you will be able to get a deadtree version that the only cost to you will be what Lulu charges.

Of course you'll have to sign a confidentiality waiver. I'll also be supplying a list of what I am looking for to make the book better. So, I need people to not just play the game, I need people who can write a decent paper on their impressions and suggestions.

I'll ping you Treebore once everything is a go. Anyone else that is interested I'll ping you to, but I will be posting a game-testing thread once I reach that point.

OK, for gear this is how I ant to handle it. You can pick 8 "mediocre" items, and they must be personal type items. You can then select 4 "good" items, nothing big or explosive. You can have 2 "great" times, still nothing big, explosive is allowed. I am feeling generous and will allow 1 "superb". Not explosive. Big, maybe, ask me.

If you select the Resource skill, then you can roll as per the rules on page 58 if you want to try to do better.

As to special items marked with the *, you can get military and law. Anything else, you can try to get out of me if it is needed for a character idea.

Your ship is the Star Patrol Cruiser on page 379, we will need to work out the 4 Aspects.

There are nice Skill/Stunt tables on pages 602 to 603. with Starship on page 604. Literally, they are for the Starship, not your characters. Pretty neat.

Ive been having computer issues the past few days so I havent had a chance to write up my character yet. I should have time before the game to get it done but depending on how busy my evening is I may still be writing it up when we start the game.

James Focht

Fate Points: 5 / 5

Stress: XXXXO
Composure: OOOOO

Minor Consequence
Major Consequence

=== PERSONA ===

He thinks there must be some crazy explanation for anything that happens. Blunt force trauma wound to the back of the head? Clearly, a deer must have figured out how to polish one of its horns into a knob-shape and creep up on the guy.

Upbringing: Space Station
Quality of Life: Second-Class Citizen
Background Twist: Star - solved the Paper Airplane Killer Case
Career: Security

Motivation: solve the mystery

The Paper Airplane Killer Case was one in which people were found all over the galaxy with paper airplanes stuck through their head. These people were also clearly dead. When the paper airplanes were extracted, they were found to be perfectly intact, as opposed to crumpled. James Focht figured that they were probably launched using a superdimensional slingshot into photographs of the victims, and the residual dimensional connection between the photographs and the victims were enough to cause the paper airplanes to hit them in their real heads. He figured out where the killer was probably hiding, busted into his hideout, and confronted him. It turned out that the paper airplane killer was a member of a cult who was turning many of its members astray. The killer was ultimately defeated, before he was able to commit a murder of a sweet little girl.

Was investigating the crooked cops who hurt Javas, nearly killed each other but were able to clear up the situation. He was won over by Javas' smile.

Gave Spike some tips on crows, doves, rain, and cathedrals and how these relate to the occult.

Gaius Darkbane

Career: Currently a Star Patrol Officer with extra duties on the side.

Description:
A fairly scruffy man in his early 30s, dark black hair and piercing eyes, tall and thin, has a tattoo of serpentine dragon going from his neck down his leg and arcane symbols on each on each palm.

Homeworld: Stentor III

Skills
+4 Great: Guns
+3 Good: Alertness, Mysteries
+2 Fair: Resolve, Endurance, Might/Intimidation/Starship X
+1 Average: Empathy, Athletics, Rapport, Starship Systems

Stunts
Danger Sense - When Ambushed can do full defense adding +2
Saw it coming - Never surprised, when surprised def is never reduced to Mediocre
Take it All in - Use Alertness for Investigation
Shot on the Run - Use Guns for Defense
Artificer - Mysteries to Improve Artifacts

Fate points
Current: 5
Refresh: 5

Stress
Physical: 6
Composure: 6

Phases (note invokes and compels listed are a general outline)

Background:

Born to wealthy and constantly busy scientists. As a typical teenager completely rejected what they stood for and went the opposite direction. The consequences of this turned out both good and bad. Luckily I was well not an idiot or it might be better to say at least my subconscious wasn't an idiot. Ended up "running away" the moment I turned majority age (still kept their credit card though) as they thought I was off doing community service on a near by backwater world.

Intuition not Reason
Invoke: Being aware, reactions, snap judgments, knowing something is off, ect..
Compel: Not thinking things through, not believing facts, ect..

Improbable Luck (mostly due to always being aware of what's around you)
Invoke: Good Luck, Strange Coincidences
Compel: Bad Luck, Strange Coincidences

Legend:

Of course I wasn't actually there, I had ended up being recruited for the Order of Hermes, which was exactly what I was looking for. About half of them had similar outlooks on life and I found acceptance, understanding, and support, which the parents had never given me. Over the next several years I was even able to make full member under the guidance of an gentle old man named Nicoli. I had several friends and an almost love named Trish and life was good. This was not to be however, when on the anniversary of our joining Trish and myself decided to surprise Nicoli with gifts and thanks. The horror we walked into however was against at least 5 of the Orders laws... Not only was it Nicoli and 2 of his ex-students, 4 other ranking members in our section where in the process of what can be considered black and corrupting magic. As we where
both in shock, Nicoli tried to talk us into joining him along the dark side. Trish
refused and to my shock he killed her with just a wave of one of his "wands".
That broke me from the fear of what we encountered and I ran. By the time I was finally able to convince the senior members of what we had happened across, everyone I had seen there had disappeared.

Paladin-Artificer of the Order of Hermes (changed from Member after Guess Star x3)
Invoke: Almost anything to do with the Order and the arcane , sensing evil
Compel: Duties, Code

Innocence Lost, Wisdom Gained
Invoke: Avoiding temptation, Being Worldly, No preconceived notions about people
Compel: Protect Others, Trying to shelter them even when they don't want it

Guest Star: James Focht

As mentioned before and bad things happened, as always the ones first to suffer where the innocent, from there it continued to expand across the galaxy. I had decided to track down the root of the problem, my ex-mentor. However, the question was how was I to take revenge even if I could find him? The answer to that, fell into my lap (as how my life typically has gone) as one of the paladins of the order offered to train me. I was quite an adapt student much to my
surprise and had mastered the novice and even some advanced techniques in months instead of the years it typically took.

After another few months of searching I had finally found him on planet 4 systems away. My rage after at finally finding him was too strong so I stupidly decided to go after him all by myself. This almost proved to my undoing as not only did he have several helpers, but he also had summoned a few nasty critters from the nether. Luckily even though I was severely wounded after taking care of the Fetches, a group of police lead by a detective burst into the building and our combined firepower was able to finish off Nicoli and the other betrayers to the order. As a result of my rash actions I spent some time in the hospital and some more time in jail considering what had happened.

The detective though understood what had happened pulled some strings and after a lengthy discussion talked me into applying for the starforce, as he was possibly going to be leading a "special" unit in the near future. I accepted, was release, made my way back to the Order and was similarly punished and given the title to Paladin-Artificer.

The Way of Woo
Invoke: Combat rolls with guns, unneeded acrobatics, trick shots, bullet time, ect.
Compel: Others can tell he is dangerous by looking, cannot aim

Help is on the Horizon
Invoke: If Myself or others need help, it is near
Compel: Others needing help

Guest Star: Andre

This period of time lasted 2 years as we where trained in Starforce procedure, tactics, weapons, starships, laws, and all that other stuff. It really wasn't too memorial other than having to deal with my roommate. He was strange and continually shouted "For Science" and had to know why and how everything worked. I of course knew better as the entire idea of knowing everything is completely beyond the scope of us limited mortals, and if you actually wanted to know the why? Well lets not go there the little I am aware of is horrifying, and man was not meant to know. However, we did seem to compliment eachother well and turned into good friends, even if we would never share quarters again. Last but not least we also learned never to touch each other's stuff, as bad things happen.

Don't worry it's not like the planet will be destroyed because of it... right?
Invoke: To keep your cool in stressful situations, resist fear
Compel: To try to hurry when not ready

Understanding is not required, ACTION is.
Invoke: To get others moving, Avoiding and recognizing delaying tactics
Compel: Making a bigger mess, Jumping ahead when not everything is known,
to get frustrated when others explain every little detail

Guest Star: Everyone

For the last 3 years we have been together working for the Star Patrol's SI section. Some of the cases we have solved have been amazingly weird, and some have just been caused by your normal run of the mill human nature. Our cases solved rate is 5% under what is typical for Star Patrol investigation unit, but considering the nature of ours it's quite astonishing (that does not count the ones that where solved that could not be reported due to the dangers involved). Through it all we have gotten to know and trust each other unconditionally, even if we don't especially like one another...

Member of Star Patrol's Black Sheep Special Investigation Unit 88 - The BSSIU
Invoke: Anything to do with our groups job or Star Patrol in general
Compel: Duties, Other Star Patrol's annoyance of having us around and looking down at us, your typical why them?

Procedure? meh
Invoke: Knowing what you can get away with doing, and how to get around it when you need too
Compel: Being known as a "troublemaker" that has no respect

Stuff
Mediocre:
Communicator
Survival Kit
Plasti-Cuffs
Typical Clothes
wrist lights
Sunglasses

Good:
Belt: Acts as a Enviormental Suit and Space Survival Suit -Automatic Effect
Amulet: Gives +1 to Resolve tests and +2 when resisting arcane/supernatural
effects
Tablet: Gives +2 to Mysteries to detect powerful emotion, supernatural effects and beings,
life, dimensional rifts, ect.. (as a hand scanner)
Gloves?: Gives TK at Might: 3, range 1, 1/per scene (or unlimited with minor effects)
or
Glasses?:
See normally in the dark, see out of phase items and critters, see auras

Great:
Light?: +3 Stress - Range 2 - +1 Guns Skill - Force or Fear? (Great Resolve?)
Dark?: +3 Stress - Range 2 - +1 Guns Skill - Force or Shock (Great Endurance - Range 1 - )
Discription: 2 Disc Shaped guns made of bonelike material and covered in gylphs
Both are based on a SMG with Mods for Crafsmanship and Special Effect.

Superb:
Coat of Protection: Provides -1 vs energy and projectile weapons and ????
Description: Simular to a trench coat in appearance with an additional hood.
Mod for Armor (based on light shield) + Special

Note of Resources:
He donates most of his spare money to those that need it living a simple life.
However, due to his connections and background he does have access (when it's required) to equipped facilities. This is done mechanically by tagging aspects and off screen. 5 Items have already been modified with Artificer stunt as shown with additional info/description. Also since they are not tied to aspects or stunts they can be easly taken away.

Also Tree you might want to at Dresden and see about using it's manoeuvre section. What this one does not clearify is that once you preform a manoeuvre (you are spending your action to do it) that aspect has one free tag. better successes on the manoeuvre lets the aspect become sticky, however you can still only tag it once without a fate point.

Fighting frozen water pipes (even on the hot water side), so may not run the game tonight. If J gets on line help him get his character done.

I'll be able to update, unless my house floods.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Shalimar – A World In The Beyond
Shalimar, is a human world located in a remote sector called ‘The Beyond’:
Shalimar is a backwoods, with slow, simple electronic computers weighing tons and a primitive telephone network. The population rely upon broadcast television and radio for information. The police are beginning to use handheld radio ‘walkie-talkies,’ superseding the archaic blue telephone boxes, which are still found on street corners.
The Shalimarans have built their own spaceport and are experimenting with rocketry. They allow outsiders to contact them, but they restrict high technology. The law forbids all but police and the military from owning firearms.

The Marshal's have been tapped as diplomatic envoys to aid this planet to establish a network of satellites around their planet as well as planetary unmanned Probes. A few tons of electronic cargo will also be sold to this planet. You will be dealing with their planetary envoy and leading Scientist, Professor Katzl. Aid him and the planet however you can, with an eye toward achieving and maintaining the best political relations possible. This mission is expected to last several months.

Hey everyone

As you are probably not aware, I had a major computer melt-down last week and spent most of the week trying to isolate and fix the problem, turns out it was something to do with the memory controller on the motherboard. Anyways I sent my motherboard off for warranty/replacement and bought a cheap(ish) temporary replacement board, so I'm up and running. BUT... I had toruble hosting a maptools server from my monday night game and i think i tracked down the problem. So, I have a server running called TNI TEST (.b84, password player)to see if the problem has been solved or not. If anyone could try connecting to the server and just let me know if its working or not it would be appreciated. Also if you can't connect let me know either here or by Skype what error message it gave you or what happened when you tried to connect.

Thanks

Thanks Treebore

I managed to catch Patrick online and we got it to work, turns out it was two things, I had to change some settings on my network card (apparently some Atheros network chips don't play nice with Maptools) and my router doesn't like maptools default port setting. So I'm ready to go for tomorrow, see you all then

I have a lot of things to take care of after being away from home for 8 days. I THINK I'll be able to run the game tonight, just not positive. So just letting you guys know yet another cancellation is possible.

Those who sent me messages saying you won't make it, don't worry, I won't either. I have to go out on the road, and I won't make it home in time to run the game.

If you get a game of DOOM going let me know, I'll sign on as soon as I can. But I'll likely be at least an hour late.
