Interest in Ravenloft over the "Holloween Season" this year?

If so, say so here. I am only able to run one group this year, and can do it on either Friday or Saturday. Hope to start first week in October and run it until no one is left alive or Strahd is defeated. If there is a lot of interest, hopefully others can step forward to CK other groups. We'll be using Roll 20 with SKYPE for chat.

Level: 7th.

Attributes: (Arranged as desired) 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, and 13.

Gear: +2 armor of choice, +2 Weapon of choice, the rest can be Expert (Additional Powers allowed, just hit and damage or AC bonus must not be greater than +2). 4 Potions of Choice. 12 levels worth of spells on scrolls. 20,000 GP worth of miscellaneous magic items, none of which may give greater than a +2 enhancement. Everything is to be selected from the M&T and M&T of Airhde, subject to my final approval.
Other mundane, non magical, gear, 1,000 GP. Except weapons and armor, you can put 500 gp towards those, specifically, in addition to the 1,000 GP.

Riding Horses with basic gear (Saddle, Bridle, Saddle Bags) assumed.

At my discretion, I may hand out additional magic items come game time.

Classes: All are allowed, but I strongly recommend against Illusionist, Assassin and Druid. Strongly recommend Clerics, Paladins, and Wizards.
Alignment: one component must be "Good". Lawful, Chaotic or Neutral is fine.

For those of you not familiar with how I do this. I run this module (I6 Ravenloft) as a "living" module. Meaning it is assumed Strahd has never been defeated (a couple of groups have) and he has grown in power based off of his victories. This time around I am doing a bit of a "reset", so he will not be as powerful as previous times, as a nod to those who did defeat him. So this module will not be ran "by the book", but it will be ran fair, and will be fun, at least until you die.

People who have played before are welcome to play again, but if you were among the successful groups, any "out of the box" or "off the wall" winning strategies will not be allowed to be repeated. So basically, if it is too similar to the original and creative ways he has been defeated in the past, I will not allow it. Only new and original ideas will be allowed. Of course the old standby of "luck" and lots of "thump" will always work. That actually has coe darn close to working several times. Darn close.

Comments by past players are welcome, but nothing to give anything away.

Great idea. People who are looking to try out online C&C would do well to sign on and game with either of these two excellent DMs

As for me, I have managed to play Ravenloft (and defeat the dastardly Strahd) under both Nwelte and Treebore.

In Treebore's version, I found myself in one on one combat with Strahd. I hit him with my best trick, for which he made the save by "1", and then I was promptly pummelled into a fine mince jelly in one round

In Nwelte's version, wherein Rigon was famously ambushed by every door-lurking, hall-loitering undead in the place, Rigon and I found ourselves turned to a smoky, oily smear on the floor by a "Strahd special".

But, like I said, in both cases, we defeated him in the end. Let that be a lesson to any potential players. You can win, but to be victorious, Aramis has to be killed

Have you come up with a schedule for these? My face-to-face group, when they all are on the same page, meet on Saturdays, so I can only commit to Fridays, but I am interested in playing this adventure for the first time.

Your the only one who has shown interest. We need at least 4 players willing to play on a given day, so you would be 1 of 4, or up to 6, for the Friday slot.

With your wife playing we can start next Friday, since I had already made plans for tonight with my family.

Now the first two magic items on your list are from the M&T of A, right?

OK- first pass at my character. I copied Aergraith's and just edited to suit. I am going for a Batman/superhero feel, with flying capes and winged helmet and all. The idea is to forget about building a character to win the dungeon, and instead leave a cool, cool corpse.

I mostly bought stat boosting magic to partially make up for my foolish/cool decision to be an elf, and thus have only 2 primes in save crazy Ravenloft

Valnor "The Falcon"
Lawful Good
Paladin of Aerdrie Faenya (goddess of Birds, Air, Weather)

Dragon Hide Boots (for coolness factor)

Weapon: Composite Strength Longbow +2 (BtH+6+Dex+3+magic+2+elf+1+expert arrows+1= +13) Damage: 1d8+2+1+3

MISC MAGIC (up to 20,000gp)

ring of resistance +1 all saves 1000
gauntlets of dexterity +1 1000
lucky whetstone +1 all saves 750 M&TA
Periapt of Wisdom +1 1000
Wings of Flying (appears as Falcon Wings) 15,750

Nah, got cleric mostly done now and its my fav class, lol

2 questions:

1. Do you allow Cure Moderate as a 2nd level spell (not in PHB and most, as u know HR it)

2. Do you allow spells to be instantaneously converted to curing spells ( like convert Prayer to Cure Ser Wounds) ?

Thanks.

To "replicate" game play as closely as originally intended, I am going by the book with this game. So none of my incredibly awesome house rules will be used in this game. So the short answer for both of your questions is "no".

The only rules deviation from C&C I am doing is on movement. We will do it more like 1E AD&D. So you are not limited to 15 and attack, you can do 30 feet. Spell casters can move in the same round in which they cast spells.

If anything else changes it will be in favor of how it was done in 1E. Like I mention above, this is to replicate the game play to be as close as possible to what was originally intended. Since it was written for 1E, that will be my guiding factor for any rule changes and rulings I make during game play.

This may be interesting, a male player playing a female PC, and a female player, playing a female PC. Which will do the better job, I wonder? ;)

For those who don't know, Aergraith's wife will be playing with us. It is her cleric I posted.

8 years ago, the widow of 30 years saw her only son; Alexandros enter the death lands of Count Strahd von Zarovich.
Like so many before, none returned. Whispers reach the lost woman that her son may have survived as his body was the only not found on a raid by 'holy men', that retreated when overwhelmed by Strahd's minions..

Lady Corhana dusts off her old Phylactery, dawns her much used and dented plate armor and meets a band of hopefuls that wish to once and for all destroy the dead walker.

Will Corhana find any clue of her son? Will she survive the biggest quest of her long life? Its been 28 years since she has left the comforts of home, on the adventurers path. She was very good at what she did one time ago; casting down enchantments to banish evil and protect her companions.

Picking up scrolls and potions and very old backpack filled with necessities for the trip, she closes the door behind and pauses. "Pelor", as she looks the the heavens, "one more time I beg of you. Guide my heart as you always have". With a sigh, she slowly closes the door and looks north, to the mist covered lands where evil runs supreme.
