Next campaign...
Next campaign...
Don't worry, barring a TPK, the current game will probably last another year or so. But in case of a TPK, or the natural end of the campaign, I'd like to get a solid idea of what everyone wants to participate in next.
There is only one thing I am concrete about. No more module based campaigns. This does not mean modules won't be used, it just means I am under no obligation to run any module I do end up using as "intended". I'll be free to modify it however I see fit, run only a part of it, or add to it as much as I desire, etc...
So my main concern right now is setting.
My current, number 1 setting of interest is the setting of Ravenloft. I have tons of Ravenloft material, and if this is the one we do I will run it under the 3E assumptions, so you will be able to begin play at first level and have a chance of living to level 2, then level 3, and so on.
The other setting idea I have been giving a lot of thought to is Mystara. In particular with starting off in Karameikos and seeing where it goes from there. Glantri will definitely come into play at some point.
The third idea I have is due to a resparked interest in Greyhawk, due to nwelte and Kayolan basing their games there. So playing there has rekindled my love of this good old setting.
Now one thing for you guys to remember, my campaign "world" has all of these settings on it. Greyhawk is right next to Aihrde, for example. The connection to Ravenloft is found somewhere far out at sea, etc...
So the "setting" is really just deciding which part of the world we start on. Who knows where you will go from there, especially at higher levels. It just depends on where the ideas take us. Even completely different worlds are possible at really high levels.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Re: Next campaign...
I was never much of a Ravenloft setting fan. I guess gothic horror just isn't my cup of tea. However, I liked Karameikos and even considered running a campaign there a time or two and Greyhawk is always good for a few years of adventuring.
I was just looking at my campaign settings last night and was thinking which one I would use when I start up my next campaign. Although, I've been mulling over a homebrew setting for some time.

So when this campaign wraps up would you like to run the next one?Rigon wrote:I was never much of a Ravenloft setting fan. I guess gothic horror just isn't my cup of tea. Also, Ravenloft, the setting is far from being just Gothic Horror. Sure, if I have you in the lands of Barovia, that area is Gothic. There are other areas that or more like Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (No, I do not consider it Gothic Horror), to Sherlock Holmes "Hounds of the Baskerville's" style horror, to Wolfen style werewolves, or Dog Soldiers, to simply disturbing, to classic D&D fantasy horror, to no horror at all. The setting is more like a patchwork of various settings with a facade that covers a horror hidden underneath. One which I bring out or keep hidden, as I wish.
So I suspect you would end up loving the campaign, if that is the way we go.

Re: Next campaign...
Who knows? The homebrew is mainly just a bunch of ideas running around in my head right now. I haven't "locked down" anything as solid yet. Though I think I'm getting close to starting to put some stuff down. I know there will be drastic changes to both classes and races. I just have to figure out what i want to do with them.Treebore wrote:So when this campaign wraps up would you like to run the next one?Rigon wrote:I was never much of a Ravenloft setting fan. Re: Next campaign...
I'm a huge fan of Ravenloft* and would play or run a game with y'all anytime.
Count me in, Tree!
Also, I would be happy to play or run Masque of the Red Death style Ravenloft!
* There is a Ravenloft adventure path . . . in my Castle Zagyg campaign - you guys met with a certain family in the CZ south tower. That family will be traveling back to Transylvania (Carpathian Mountains) to defend the family estate/castle from recent attacks by were creatures!

Mine as well . . . as you know. Loads of great campaign/history/lore closely tied into Gary's modules (which contain much more interesting material, IMO than does the boxed set or folio!Treebore wrote:The third idea I have is due to a resparked interest in Greyhawk, due to nwelte and Kayolan basing their games there.

Yeah, but we have just been in the Castle or Yggsburgh, so it hasn't "felt" like GH yet.Rhuvein wrote:Mine as well . . . as you know. I like all the ideas. Definitely a lot of rewriting to do to bring it all together. The list of gods evokes a great feel, or flavor, already.Rigon wrote:Tree, I sent you an email at your gmail account. It's the basic outline of most of my ideas.

Re: Next campaign...
I hate to just jump in uninvited, but I am getting sooooo close to finishing my college work and will be looking for an open game slot.
Unfortunately, with my work at TYA, involvement at church, and my little girls soccer etc. I can only game Monday night. That said, if you have room for me I’d love to play in any setting !

Right now we have 7 players, so I'd have to leave it up to a group vote to add an 8th, because things are already pretty slow moving.Lurker wrote:I hate to just jump in uninvited, but I am getting sooooo close to finishing my college work and will be looking for an open game slot.

Re: Next campaign...
Another campaign possibility:
Using my home brew campaign assumptions using the world of the Forgotten Realms as my "template". The big alterations are:
Ogres and Lizardmen have a advanced society, so they have priests, wizards, etc...
This also means I have the Saurials as a kind of branch of the lizardmen, and I will adapt their Complete Humanoids book write up to C&C.
Magic itself is in its infancy, so max of 6th level spells are available, above that have to be created in game.
The whole world is meant to feel "younger" low carbon steel weapons are a rarity, and only the dwarves can consistently make them as a race. Master weaponsmiths among the other races also know how to make them. So most weapons are of high carbon content, and prone to breaking. Plate mail is fairly rare and full plate is almost unique, at least outside the dwarves. Again, most armor is made of high carbon steel, so also brittle and prone to being broken.
As a fan of the Forgotten Realms some things will feel familiar, but there will be plenty you will have no idea about, until you find out for yourself.
If this is of serious interest I will need to know soon to make sure I have plenty of time to convert everything I would need to into C&C, especially the new PC races. I last ran this in the early days of 2E D&D.
