Thanks.

Actually, I'm using the 3rd printing phb for this game. Not sure if that is different than the 1st or 2nd printing.
The 1st-3rd printing are almost identical material (only differences being typos, errata, and layout). The "major" changes took place in the 4th print (different barbarian, more illusionist spells (with healing magic), different flavor for monk, cleaned up encumbrance rules, some other things that I can't remember off of the top of my head) . But now the 4th-6th printings are almost identical (only differences being typos, errata, layout, and colored pages).

Unless I'm missing something, it seems the final encumbrance rules began with the 2nd print.

How about dropping waterskin along with sacks and backpacks?

Wolfgar's ER: 12
None: 0-12
Light: 13-24
Moderate: 26-36
Heavy: 37-48
Overburdened: 49-60
Total EV without pack or sack: 11
Total EV with pack or sack: 20
So, lightly encumbered until dropping pack/sack.

Sure, if you keep all of your stuff in a pack, it makes it even quicker to leave that stuff on the ground if necessary.

OK, so I resolved the protracted battle with the zombies out of game as we discussed, with Aethelrand and Marth keeping a distance and shooting arrows at them while they remained in the inner court yard. Needless to say many arrows were shot, it's a good thing you both brought extra quivers, because you both shot 26 arrows each until finally the last zombie fell!
Out of the 26 arrows each, Aethelrand recovered 14 and Marth recovered 11. Strewn about the inner court yard lay the unmoving bodies of 14 zombies (yes, the 3 that Marth turned actually had enough time to come back!), also there's the two you put down in the hall.

I have a party to go to, but I should be able to check in a bit late. My plan is to arrive at the end of the last combat for the night, just before the treasure is divided

Just got in from work and I'm toast. I wouldn't be good for gaming tonight so I'm gonna pass. Gotta work tomorrow so I'm going to chill out, have a glass of Sherry and read slimy's posts!
Have a great evening and a good game if it's on!
