I like the idea of playing a ranger. I will look at chargen tonight after work.

We might be able to tweak it a little if there's something that really requires greenery.
Summon tumbleweed for entangle ...
Prickly pear for goodberry ....

OK, so, are we doing level 1 characters? Any house rules for chargen?

Roll 4d6 and drop lowest for attributes.

Otherwise, Aergraith only has a few other house rules which may or many affect chargen.

See his handouts on Roll20.

See ya tomorrow night!

1 Hecatombaion
Solstice Night
The Apsallian Sound, west of the CITY-STATE OF XYLH

OMAD, TRISTIN, and ZUMBIDO arrive in Xylh by boat. OMAD from the West, TRISTIN from the North, and ZUMBIDO returning from her studies.

On the boat they meet KELLA and AZZAD, who teach them a game called Boatzee.

MASMUD, an astrologer, and FIRHUN, a deckhand from AGADOR, get in an altercation and OMAD intervenes, punching FIRHUN. ZUMBIDO scares him with "Dancing Lights" and uses his superstitions against him, defusing the situation, and getting MASMUD the silver that FIRHUN had been taking from him.

MASMUD invites the group to visit him in the library, where he has important research to do about the stars not being quite right.

KELLA places contraband, a flask, in ZUMBIDO's bag, hoping to retrieve it from them on the other side of the gate.

KELLA arranges to meet the group for drinks at the Bull's Horn later in the evening, allegedly to drink and visit, but really to recover the contents of the bag.

Captain of the Watch GHIZZAR is unmoved by ZUMBIDO's requests to let them through the WESTERN GATES OF XYLH ahead of everyone else. He knows ZUMBIDO and her granddaughters BERNADETTE and HANNA, so when he finds the contraband in her pack he believes her when she points out KELLA and AZZAD as people who might be using her as a mule.

Upon arrival in the city, the group hire AZIZ the linkboy, who takes them to see the storyteller who tells them a tale of a fateful trip which started from a tropic port aboard a tiny ship.

They then visit ZUMBIDO's home, and speak with neighbors, and AZIZ tells stories of a wyvern, an elf emissary in Bygnorum (what is an ELF?), the death of the wizards AKNARJIN and TZYMOSCH, and of tension between Bygnorum and Xylh.

ZUMBIDO wishes to meet the people that nearly got the party arrested at the city gates. They find Ghizzar in the corner, hiding in the shadows with a hood on, nursing a drink. KELLA and AZZAD are there. They beckon the party forward, and they keep asking about the bag, or maybe visiting ZUMBIDO's home. KELLA then says she has an item she'd rather not carry around all night if they are going to the festival, so could she drop it off or put it in ZUMBIDO's bag. ZUMBIDO suggests she keep it in the tavern's safe. KELLA refuses and says the item is private. ZUMBIDO takes her aside so she can whisper what the private thing is.

KELLA instead pulls a dagger. OMAD menaces AZZAD with a knife while KELLA stabs ZUMBIDO, who avoids the blow, while TRISTIN shoots AZZAD with an arrow after AZZAD retreats to the corner. ZUMBIDO ends up color spraying two innocents while missing KELLA, but OMAD knocks KELLA unconscious with the flat of his blade.

Too late, the town guard run forward to stop this. They say they were watching to see if there'd be a confession or some sort of evidence they could follow up on and didn't anticipate the stabbing.

GHIZZAR writes the party a token to take to the TEMPLE OF LAW in return for a reward.

BILAL THE TOOTHLESS, proprietor of the BULLS HORN liked the color spray and after the innocents got their apology it was agreed that the party could entertain everyone with spells for the next hour. TRISTIN and ZUMBIDO ended up scaring the hell out everyone but OMAD saved the day by singing wonderful songs from his people that everyone loved, and the party made 60gp in tips, an amazing amount.

NEXT SESSION off to the solstice sacrifices.

A couple of things for our CK and my fellow players . .

Since the other players don't have transport, and we arrived via a ship - there would probably be no reason I would have purchased and brought a donkey with me.

So, if it's with Aergraith ~ I would like to retro lose my beloved donkey to pick up a few more items.

Now, my list of gear seems long, but most of it is very small to small items. But I will review the encumbrance of everything to see if it works according to the rules.

:)

The animal companion (druid spell) that I've been training is an osprey with the following tricks to be learned (per the CKs approval) . .

choosing 3-6 tricks per the PH:

Come (using a bird whistle)
Attack
Defend
Fetch
Heel
Protect

Name = Gryll

Using M&T bird of prey stats:

AC =14

HPs = 5

Attacks:

2 talon (1 HP damage)
1 beak (1d2 damage)
Twilight and dusk vision
Move . . fly 60 ft.
Alignment - neutral

Gryll was flying over my house today when I was out with Delilah!!

Hmm, interesting that I have not seen any Cooper's Hawks in quite some time (mebbe last year)!

:)

The osprey is fine, and you can readily find one if you do the spell. Next session, you can all decide if you want to try to lie low for 6 weeks while you train the animal, or do just a few of the tricks, or do some stuff and then start the training.

Nah, I hate to hold up the gaming/adventuring for the other players (and me for that matter) . . but praps you could throw me a bone and allow 1 week of training that has occurred ~ so that I could call the bird and feed him a bit to follow the spell requirement which starts the companionship.

Mebbe, I cast the spell as we set sail and the bird (which indeed frequents all environs including deserts where there are ocean, lakes, rivers and streams nearby) and I get acquainted as we travel to Zyhl.

And then, I would try to train the bird as we adventured per week or so.

Or I suppose you could hand wave the lying low . . . LOL! ;)

Or not! :D

Anywho, no problemo if you'd rather this animal friendship begins next session (mebbe I have the egg and am keeping it warm until hatching and then we'll bond a la Dragonriders of Pern - what was that expression? Impress?

Also Aergraith . . if it's not too much trouble, perhaps you could create another "character" in Roll20, so I can stat out Gryll and have him ready for game action ~ attacks, init et. al.

Thanks!

Nerd voice: "It takes an osprey about a month to incubate and nearly another month before it can be a fledgling. But it would definitely imprint on you. If our wrens are any indication then feeding the wee thing would be more than a full time job. The wrens were feeding their young at 10 minute intervals."

Normal voice: "Love this! Personally, I will offer no objection waiting for Gryll's training. Maybe Omad and I could hit the taverns to earn some spending money or learn a skill or spell during that time?"

Perhaps I should just follow the spell instructions and befriend a young adult and train it while we adventure!

The journey to Xylh took about 2 weeks. Most of that was through desert, grass, and farmland. About a week into travel you arrive near enough to the sea to summon the osprey, which fails its save.
During the sea part of the journey, you are able to impart one trick to the osprey.
As Xylh is near the sea, it's not unhappy to remain in Xylh so long as it is allowed to hunt for fish a little each day.

If you choose to spend time in the city training, it won't cost you much as long as you stay with Zumbido. The main thing is that the calendar moves forward. As far as you know, you don't have any pressing tasks, so that's probably fine.

Well done, Sir Gringnr!

Indeed, Tristin (he likes to be called Triss) is actually an advanced intelligent walrus creature from the planet Pern. He is on a secret mission to Nuna to find an ancient artifact to save his home planet from thread.

Currently, he is polymorphed into a half-elf druid who occasionally plays the lyre . . and can sing ~

Yellow matter custard
Dripping from a dead dog's eye
Crabalocker fishwife
Pornographic priestess
Boy, you've been a naughty girl
You let your knickers down

The elementary penguin is the artifact in question.

Goo goo g' joob!

Everybody smoke pot, smoke pot, smoke pot (in common that tranlates to juba, juba, juba . . )
