Thinking about what to run (update: uncertain schedule)

Post by ssfsx17 »

UPDATE: My schedule for Saturdays & Sundays is uncertain for the near future

----

For a while, we've had a Saturday night group that started with Kayolan running a module by Jim Ward, and which has now evolved into a more experimental group.

I want to be as prepared as possible when I GM again. This is assuming that slimykuotoan runs until school starts, Kayolan runs Legend RPG, and GShore runs Tunnels & Trolls or Rifts. So, late this year or early next year.

First, I am open to suggestions - especially of the rules-light nature. For example, if there is a FATE RPG book you have always wanted to play in, or a World of Darkness environment you want to try out.

With that said, here are the options that I have already done a little bit of prep work on, in order of how much more prep time they would take.

1. Resume the Cortex Classic Cyberpunk campaign (which our group had been playing for roughly 9 months). Although it is the easiest option for me, the missions will not get any easier for the party - unless they decide to get paid less than they had in the past. The missions will be written on the basis that the party has "Heroic-level" or even "Epic-level" experience. I may list the game on Roll20 to get more people, but unfortunately, the "Cortex" name is most strongly associated with slimykuotoan's number one enemy in life.

2. Class-less D&D ( https://sites.google.com/site/skill20rpg/ ) in Planescape. It will start with a few adventures to help both you and me get used to Planescape, followed by official modules. From what I have read so far, none of the modules are dungeon crawls. If any dungeons do come up, I will try to run them as maplessly as possible. This game will, likewise, first be advertised on the C&C forum, then listed on Roll20 if we don't get at least one new guy.

3. Class-less D&D ( https://sites.google.com/site/skill20rpg/ ) in the Far East. This will not be "Oriental Adventures" because I will not use the Kara-Tur setting. Although if you want your characters to be from the Far East then you can use the family and honor systems. It will be a medium or long campaign with an over-arching goal. This game will first be advertised on the C&C forum, then listed on Roll20 if we don't get at least one new guy.

4. Node RPG ( https://sites.google.com/site/noderpg/ ) in a setting that I am working on, named Schism War 6,666. It is heavily inspired by the 30 Years' War ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thirty_Years%27_War ). Here's the quick summary:

Mercenaries roam the countryside, raiding farms to avoid starving to death and kidnapping children to serve as cannon fodder. Firebrand preachers work up peasants in a frenzy and send them off to burn their neighbors to death. Scheming nobles send their younger siblings off to die in war, only to be repaid tenfold by greater betrayals. The king's knights string up whole towns onto tall trees, leaving their rotting corpses to sway in the wind and be an example to others who would dare rebel. Merchant-Princes find it more efficient to pay some brigands to ruin a whole nation rather than build up their businesses honestly. Cruel lords ask village mayors about various religious doctrines, then rape and pillage the place if the mayor should give the wrong answer. Many are born to army whores and know only the way of pike and shot, unaware of any other way to live. Mobs retaliate against their oppressors by swarming onto their tanks and mechs, throwing explosives into their gears. They who would marry robots are publicly stoned to death.

This is the Schism War, and it is the year 6,666.

For 2018?
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Well, if I had to choose I guess it'd be Planescape, but I'm open to play in any of them.

Yes - this is based on the following assumptions:
- slimykuotoan runs whatever he wants until school starts
- Kayolan runs Legend RPG or the like
- Dr. Darwin Tanner (a guy you may have met only once) runs Tunnels & Trolls or Rifts, or both

I just now realized my mistake. My apologies. I somehow managed to skip the entire year of 2017. That's what the year 2017 gets for being an odd year.

If I could play, I would certainly love to. Just I do too much with my family on weekends to do a Saturday game. I have trouble with nwelte's bi weekly Sunday game.

Right now I've got a tie between two options. Anyone who expects to be available on Saturday nights, your vote can make the difference!

Options 1 and 4 sound cool to me, although it all looks good.
For crying out loud, do what you can with the rolls the dice have given you. This is what separates the men from the boys... -Kayolan
