Got the email. That's great that we are still going to play. As to you other question, I don;t have a problem with how you handle character death.

I likewise will go with what you prefer on character death.

When I DM, although I can see some of the arguments for punishing character death (especially 'moral hazard': you have to punish it or players are too reckless), I tend to be fairly lenient as well. This is because player deaths are often just a) bad luck/rolls or b) too deadly dungeon etc.

Also, as a campaign progresses, a regular turnover in personnel tends to lose the threads of the campaign ("Why are we intent on killing the evil necromancer again? He has not harmed any of these particular 4 characters"). That isn't to say that a well earned death through either stupidity or heroic action (are those two really separate things? ) does not add some spice.

In this game in particular, I think I _should_ favour a lenient rule, given that I will have the lowest AC, the worst HP, and will probably be foolishly scouting ahead of the party on many occasions.

Wait until you see my secret plan to use my abilities in our encounter with the evil priest. It is almost a guaranteed kill...by them on me!

A lot of the same reasoning as to why I like to be lenient.

I look forward to seeing the results of your "secret plan".

Hey folks, I won't be able to play this Monday (5/21). My wife is coming home from a four day trip and I want to spend time with her tomorrow after work.

As far as I have been told only one is not playing (the cleric), so the game is on. I'll be there, anyways. Plus my daughter. Plus my son is going to "play" Clemson for me, so I don't forget and ignore the assets Clemson brings to the party.

We are having some good sessions. I like how Treebore is running the game. If we want to spend the rest of our (probably short) lives walking the misty moors trying to provoke random attacks on ourselves, who is he to gainsay it?

Slimy's sword really was a difference maker last time. It is a powerful item, as is both the magic missile wand and rod we have found. But then we are just barely getting through some of these encounters, so we need them.

One interesting thing I notice is that the calibre of the monsters is scaling up rather quickly, which is a bit tricky for a multiclass spell caster like myself. I am still slinging 1st level spells like sleep which are right on the border of being useless against what we are facing now (owlbears, worgs, ogres and the like).

Once I get those 2nd level spells (invisibility and web I think) watch out!

Well, that is one of the drawbacks people seem to forget about when they discuss dual or multi class characters. When you travel around with a bunch of single class characters they get way ahead of you in their class.

More HP, better saves, higher level spells faster, etc...

So your character is what I sometimes call the "long view" character. Yeah, you may be behind the power curve right now, but eventually (around 8th to 9th level in each class in my experience) your characters classes are going to give you a lot of versatility and dimension, which are powerful in their own way.

Plus this area of the adventure is meant of 4th to 7th level characters. There are 6 of you with most at 3rd or 4th level. Your what? 2/2? 2/3?

So your going to have a harder time of it. Plus since there are 6 characters in your party you, as a group, are able to handle these encounters. Even though having that wand casting magic missiles at 12th level was definitely a HUGE help against those Shambling Mounds. Characters definitely would have died if not for that wand dealing out the damage it did.

Having a +3 Sylvan Sword is definitely a big help at 3rd and 4th level too. It effectively ups your BtH by 3 character levels and your STR bonus to damage by 6 points on the STR scale. Then there is the extra d6 of damage while in woodlands.

However, everyone should soon have a weapon and piece of armor with a +1 bonus on it. About half of you already do.

Plus the random nature of the fog can definitely be "tiring". It is meant to be. It is meant to wear you down and kill you or make you decide to leave and not come back.

Only exceptional perseverance and a good bit of luck will allow you to find the Green Hag. In other words, only stupid adventurers would risk life and limb to the point where they might find her.

I for one think the campaign is pretty darn awesome.

...and I don't mind the fog and problems it brings; I think it adds more realism to the game.

My wifes lap top has died today. Apaprently do to over heating and burning out something.

So Mondays game with have to be played using my Toshiba that likes to shut down frequently due to over heating.
Frequent shut downs due to over heating are definitely better to put up with than permanent shut downs due to over heating.

Yeah, those laptop coolers have really come down in price and sound like a must have. My wife's Dell is fairly cool, but that's a model thing - as my nieces Dell is super friggin' hot.

Hey guys,

I'm about to start a new project at work that will be taking up more of my time, my "side projects" have been ramping up, and my wife has started to complain about how often I've had to shut myself in the office lately.

Somethings gotta give and I'm afraid it's the Monday night game. As much as I hate to do it, I'm going to have to drop out of the game.

I have really enjoyed gaming with you guys over the last couple months and I'm going to miss it. Thanks for all the laughs and I hope to get to play with all of you again soon.

Thanks,

Cody

Good game last night. That is 2 weeks in a row now that our plans have come from our young brain trust. Titania with waiting out the hag rather than chasing her in that infernal soup, and now Clemson with his plan to get everyone to try to kill him And both worked splendidly.

I don't know if everyone was connected when this was mentioned, but we are probably going to go for the "lost City in the desert" adventure next, if everyone is agreeable to that. My talents (and temperate preferences) are not best suited to such an environment, but Orlan will do almost anything to get away from these uncouth savages and their mystifying religion.

No offence Draupnir and Clemson and Fyn (Titania a barbarian too?)
bloody savages
