Right, but if initiative is rolled only at the outset of combat, it would be a bit tricky. Once we set that Blondie (rolled 10) goes before Angel Eyes (9 [rolled a 7 + 2 hip shot bonus]), who goes before Tuco (8) , it is set for the remaining rounds.

Or do you mean we retroactively revoke Angel Eyes advantage after the first round, and revert him? Might be a bit tricky to remember all that.

I don't have a nice shiny initiative board like you
I always like rules where the player can choose multiple combat options but each one has benefits and penalties. However, they do have a tendency to make the combats too fiddly (a.k.a. 3e disease, which is a baleful affliction! )

P.S. -thanks for pointing out that rpgnow sale. Some good stuff.

Common sense is what tells you that the world is flat.

Its easy either way. Write it so that it applies only for the first round. If you only roll the first round just drop thier initiative position by 2 after the first round. Not hard.

Your welcome about the give away. I saw it on ENWorld, and since I know a fair number of board members here don't go to the other boards that I do, it was easy to make sure you all got the word.

I'm just not sure I like how my interest in Pulp games has been elevated by some of these downloads.

Me too. This would be just about perfect flavouring for my kind of pulp adventure

6-9 PST (9-12 EST) I will be logging into OpenRPG and Skype early (5-ish) to make sure all is well. My skype name is Aramisxyz (some varmint already had Aramis!)

I will be pre loading the town map (which I made and hopefully will load. (Since there are two professional artists in the group, that I know of [Rhiannon and Jason] we can all have a good laugh at my attempts). I had to make the OpenRPG grid have more lines than normal to fit the town on, so it seems to scale weirdly so the minis are truly mini. I will try to figure that out as well.

Also, we can chat about rules and how combats work (quick answer: I don't really understand it either). And I can show you how to place yer t'baccy twixt yer cheek an' gum

I *might* be non-lazy enough to draw up a character sketch/mini before the game tonight. Maybe. Probably not. My laziness knows no bounds.

On the subject of Cowboy Colloquialisms, that free Gunslingers and Gamblers download had an amusing Cowboy Glossary in it.

I made up a brawling table but the forums here keep eating the table so it looks like this:

BrawlingGrapple1-4....

and so on. Too much of a headache to fiddle so I will send it via skype when we are all there. Essentially, it is like my Shootin' Damage Table, but for Brawlin'

Thanks, great pictures! I think the two funniest lines of the night were the one you have here...and where Gabriel keeps his money. Remind me never to get a loan from him!
Good stuff. I have not DMed for many years, and it would help if I could remember _my own darned rules_ but I had fun with it.

Hopefully in following sessions the story lines will weave together a bit. Always a bit tricky/slow when the team first rides into town and they have not yet "bought a ticket to the funhouse" yet

Well, you've got a ticket now pardner
I think I will tidy up ver. 2 of the house rules (with the fabled Brawling Table included. Groin gouge!) and send it to everyone. Do people prefer pdfs (easy to read but kb heavy) or the old word docs?

That could be where the term "Gold Digger" originated.

My printer is screwy. I have to export docs as PDF's anyway, if I want them to print. Who knows how it would be if I tried to print a pre-made PDF?

I guess what I'm saying is, either way is fine with me.

Poor ol Father Sanchez will be walking crooked for a week dang'nabit

Great session all in all, although it was a little slow in some parts. But that was our fault for splitting up.

as for the format of the new house rules PDF, either way is fine by me, im just going to print them out anyways.

Cant wait for the next session

Like "Aces" said, it was a little slow to begin, but I just wrote that off to first-session jitters, 7 people/background noise on Skype, and the fact that we split up into 3 parties. Buffalo's the anti-social sort anyway, so I didn't expect him to go nosing around, glad-handing the locals.

All in all, I was pleased with very low level of overall grab-ass and OOC chatter, and must say that I was really impressed by the RP abilities of the Treeborean clan.

Something of a summary can be found here

Hopefully it will help you keep track of all of the various story lines and information you have received (or might want to pursue in future sessions)

The revised house rules pdf with Brawling Table Goodness should have been sent to all interested hombres.

As mentioned in session last week, we will not play in Dead Mule next week, so that Buffalo can get himself some Thanksgiving fixins. However, I did say, if people want, I can try to run a 1 shot that night, to keep the Thursday night slot alive for another week.

If people have Thanksgiving plans that's fine too (unless it is spak man, who should have been finished his thanksgiving weeks ago, like me)

[Johns steps out. A creature runs at Johns from its hiding spot before taking flight.]

Johns: You said it was clear!

Riddick: I said it 'looked' clear.

Johns: Well, how does it look now?

Riddick: Looks clear

OK- so that is spakman and treeboreans for a one shot C&C session Thursday

My first idea was ...Tomb of Horrors. Come on, it's perfect since it is one shot and you don't mind that all the characters will die (_that_, not if)

However, that seemed a bit big, so then I had another idea. A tournament module that says in the DM notes it can be played in 2 hrs (in fact, must be played in 2 hrs) real time: C1 Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan, one of TSRs best modules ever. However, there are 39 rooms, even in the tournament version, which my spidey sense tells me is preposterous to complete in 4, let alone 2 hours. a discussion amongst the reviews at Dragonsfoot indicates a party played through there in 33 hours!

Still, it is a cool, flavorful module. What say you?

Or I could pull something from an ol' Dungeon Mag. I am looking for the opposite of the kind of stuff I normally run I.e., for the one shot we just want a set up like: you are trapped in a wizard's menagerie, GO!

We may start an hour early for this very special episode of Thursday Night RPG Extravaganza, depending on what module we will do, I assume that works for all (since you are all ahead of me time wise anyway). So 5 PST (6 Crazy Arizona Time, huit heure a Montreal)

Tomb of Horrros can be done. In fact, you usually die so fast you won't last for 2 hours, let alone 4.
I would definitely prefer playing something we could finish, but modules like that are hard to find.

Dungeon would likely be your best bet for finding a scenario short enough.

You could do Shrines, but send us in there to find something specific, so its over when we find it and get back out.

Which I believe is the premise of it anyway. I think the 33 hour people searched every single room, despite having already found what they went in there for. Don't know, I didn't read anything because I don't want to ruin it for myself since its another classic I never got to play through. Its been about 20 years since I DMed it, so hopefully I won't remember anything.

The good thing for me is I have DMed so many modules I confuse them so I am rarely sure if I'm remembering the right adventure or not.

The good thing for me is I have DMed so many modules I confuse them so I am rarely sure if I'm remembering the right adventure or not.

I think for deaths we would apply my now patented Death as Disability rules, so everyone gets to finish the module and get maximum joy.

Plus then I get to give out the "Pirate Award" for the player who has accumulated the most disabilities in the module (peg leg, eye patch, etc.)

The set up of hidden shrine is that the players fall down a hole and end up in an old (Mayan) tomb. Then they hear the hissing of poison gas! Must..get...out..before...gas...kills...me...

The thing that is odd abut that set up is, as I recall (played through it in Neverwinter Nights computer game), it is very trap and tricks heavy like these old schoolers tended to be. That does not seem compatible with racing through rooms to finish in two hours

Still, it is very well made and has a cool flavour to it.

Another fun one might be some kind of stealth heavy party tasked to steal something from ye old wizard tower (or dispatch the wizard himself). Like a "mission impossible" kind of session. The problem is, unless I find something like that in my Lankhmar stuff, or Dungeon, I would have to make that myself, which will not be likely for Thursday

Or we could break out the Paranoia and spend the evening having the players accuse each other of being commies, and shooting each other!

Sorry for being the odd-man-out, folks! The gal is coming home for the holidays, and since she was raised as a Jehovah's Witness (somewhat), they've never celebrated Christmas. Thus, Thanksgiving is a HUGE deal for her family. I'll be out in the sticks with a bunch of overly-proud Texans (I'm a Yankee import), getting crammed full o' pecan pie, roadkill, and Lone Star Beer.

Ol' Buffalo Johnson would be so proud *sniffle*

Have fun storming the castle!

No problems whatsoever. We said we would delay a week if anyone had Thanksgiving, so it is all good.

Maybe I'll pull the old switcheroo on them. They roll up C&C characters, and a mysterious portal takes them to a place beyond the mountains...beyond reason...Dead Mule!
