I can see their smiles and hear their laughter, but I only get dead silence from Vent.

Yeah, that definitely threw me during the T:2000 game as well.

It reminds me of a story I heard about Rodney Dangerfield. On his first day of filming for Caddyshack, he looked rather perturbed and flabbergasted. When Chevy Chase asked him what was wrong, he said "I'm dyin' out there, Chevy. No one's laughing!". Since he was used to stand-up and Caddyshack was his first film, it didn't occur to him that the crew HAD to remain quiet on the set.

I take it we are not switching over to a playtest for STARSIEGE yet/ever? I thought a date of May 5 had been mentioned in that thread for the 411.

I have yet to receive anything, so we aren't doing anything yet.

Just spoke to Slimy in his supers game and he already has the pdf of the STARSIEGE material. So, either he forgot to send it, or we are not part of it.

Might be an idea to drop him a line

Alright, so what do people want to do re:playtest?

I don't think we can do it tonight. Plus, we are having too much fun slowly conquering the spinward marches.

Also, what was the verdict re: my idea of us combining all of our captured ships into one awe inspiring super ship?

Anyone...Bueller?

I'd rather have one ship than a fleet, but my vote shouldn't count too heavily. On one hand, having more ships gives more of the PC's something to do during jumps or combat. On the other, it drags game mechanics out that much longer, and spreads us thin.

Give me a drop shuttle, a fusion gun and a target. That's all the Jayhwak needs.

If we're going to playtest SS instead, tonight could be character gen. I'm good either way.

Yes, I agree, the start of the STARSIEGE playtest will be character gen, questions, and so on.

Re: treebore's email. I definitely do not want to fold up the traveller game. Our choices on that front seem to be:

1) wrap traveller up tonight. Don't know how much of the spinward marches remains tantalisingly free of our clutches. That's for Treebore to know

2) Play traveller tonight, then put it on a brief pause, playtest STARSIEGE, then finish up traveller. Then Gamma World

3) Totally finish traveller, then STARSIEGE playtest. I don't know the deadline for the playtest

4) Finish the traveller game under the STARSIEGE rules. This seemed to be the best option at the outset, but now I am not sure. Like Treebore, I see now the game is a separate system unto itself, so I am not sure how readily adaptable it is. Again, that is for the wise Treebore to tell us.

On a related note, if we do not wrap megatraveller under the STARSIEGE rules, here is a somewhat stupid/interesting idea I had for our eventual STARSIEGE playtest.

We do a round robin game! I.e., just like how we swap DMs every 6 weeks, here we swap the DM each week. But, here's the tricky part, we keep the same storyline throughout.

This would be tricky for those DMs who follow up the original game, as they have to adapt to what has gone before. So it would get a bit whacky in parts.

But, the advantage of it is, we can file 6 DM reviews and 6 player reviews, and everyone really gets a feel for when the rules are clunky and so on.

Just an (admittedly fairly dumb) idea.

Actually I have had fun "round robin" DMing before and would love to give it a try with our group.

After reading up on races and class "building" I definitely think we should have some kind of clean cut between my Traveller and Star SIEGE.

The STARSIEGE deadline is such that I think we should put my game on hold immediately. You are essentially in between parts, so a decent place to take a break. Then we could go over character creation and discuss CKing and such tonight and hit the ground running, I hope, next Thursday.

As far as the ship issue for my game, I think selling everything, especially with the awesome trader you have on board, and then buying a bigger, better, single ship was a really good idea.

If you guys are willing to make certain agreements with a certain Duke I bet you could even get licensed to have a well armed ship. Which you will technically need for your most recent ship anyways, once you bring it back to Jewell Sector (Mongo). IE military class defenses and weaponry, which your newest vessel is.

The only time you should really spread out into multiple ships is in a campaign where your primary characters want to retire and have their investments grow via their own little corporations success. Then play the crew of a specific ship in their fleet.

So for this quick one shot kind of game, selling and consolidating is the best way to go.

I know you guys feel like you have hit jack pot after jack pot, and may even feel monty haulish, but believe me when I say you guys are still very, very, very small fish in a HUGE ocean. You have basically elevated from tiny krill to minnows. When you are buying and selling in the Trillions of credits, then you will be a pretty big fish. When your net worth is in the Pentillions you will be a major mover and shaker in the Imperium.

When you are like your current Duke and essentially own 6 planets and "control" a dozen or more, and own the military fleets that protect them, and own, control, or greatly influence every mercantile company that trades with those planets, you will be a "big fish".

Yes, he, and his friends, started much like you guys are doing. About 60 years ago. Even though the Duke looks to be in his early 30's. His "true age" is reportedly over 100.

So you guys are just scratching just beyond the surface layers, with much, much further to go.

But as far as StarSIEGE, yeah, it needs to be done completely on its own to be play tested, and to do it in the desired time frame we have to put the current Traveller game on hold. Which I am OK with doing if you guys are. If you prefer to go on with Traveller and tell Cheaplives we can't do it, I'm fine with that too.

However, try and read through the rules, and really look at race and character creation. I think it looks pretty neat. So read it if you can, and then we'll talk about it tonight at game time.

I say we give the old Star Siege a day in court. Not too sure that I'm interested in CK'ing it though, despite the uniqueness of Kurt's suggestion.

I sent it to you yesterday. Have you checked all your e-mails? Look for the word StarSIEGE in the subject line before you delete.

Hey Tree, sorry to be a pain, but could you try it once more to my J@JB account? I got the email at work, and for whatever reason, it didn't leave a copy on my mail server. So, the PDF is sitting there smugly on my work computer, like a big jerk!

Hi nate- Orlan from the monday group here. We usually have a fairly sizeable contingent, but I am unsure if Patrick and/or Bran (the World of Warcraft is strong in this one! ) will be joining in

Why don't you sign in tonight anyway, and we will see what is what

Hopefully tonight we can:

make characters

have a pretend man-man combat

have a pretend vehicle-vehicle combat

hash out some outline of our braided story/how many DMs we have

I have come up with some interesting ideas (well, what I think are interesting) to start us off. So I will probbaly offer myself as the first DM/victim. Always a bad idea to go first, because we might spend the first 4 hours having a gunfight/figuring the rules. But what the heck!

Cheaplives would like us to e-mail him our "notes" each week, since that would be easier for him to deal with. He might join us next week, but it depends on how much it conflicts with his Thursday group, so not likely. Plus its OK with him if we play test the next two Thursdays as long as we do the weekly submission of our play test notes/questions.

I printed out my Star SIEGE today and things do make more sense to me now, but they definitely could stand some improvement in the "clarity" department.

Hey guys, I have to drop out of the playtest. I won't have time this week (tonight, I guess) to decipher the rules enough to make a character. I've been constantly on the go since our last session!

Good luck!

No, not at all. I was out of town from noon on Friday until about 2am Monday morning (Sunday night). I've been playing catch up on sleep/work/responsibilities since then, and tonight I'll have to help the GF unload the moving truck once she arrives back in town with all of her wordly possessions.

Things will be back on an even keel by Sunday. They'd better be!

I am glad to say back to wrapping up Traveller in the next week, maybe 3 weeks. Whenever you guys wrap things up. You are just past the half way point, so I expect two to three weeks.

What Gamma World rules are we going to use?
